my engine project thread.

finished finals today YEAH!!! alright, so i am planning on doing a rebuild for an s5 n/a engine over the summer if everything looks OK after the tear down. i will post everything here so that you guys can guide me and give me tips when i run into problems.

so far i do not have any plan for the engine yet because i do not know what i am working with. with that said let get on with the project.

for the engine tear down, i will be following the FSM so that if anyone wanted to follow along they could.

first problem, after taking off the oil pan, the FSM stated i needed a flywheel stopper.
does anyone know where i can get one of these or know an alternative method?
also i am doing this without an engine stand so i am pretty sore right now after just taking off the oil pan. is there an easier way i can do this with maybe a home made stand (or something i can use) so that i do not have to break my back every time i want to turn it over?

thanks and please post any helpful tips and links that you think might help me.

engine stand is 30-70 bucks + 55 or so for the rotary adapter. its money well spent. flywheel stoppers can be had for 25 bucks roughly through mazdatrix i believe, they work great. thats about all i got for ya at the moment. best of luck!
