is my clutch going out???

i have a 88 Mazda rx7 convertible, i have been having some problems with my gears, when i shift into 2nd, 3rd, and 5th sometimes it will just rev high instead of just engaging into gear. when i let off the gas and then push the gas back in its fine but thats only with 2nd and 3rd gear. 5th gear on the freeway will just keep revving when i attempt to increase my speed. i think my gears are slipping and the clutch is going out but i just want to double check so please let me know what you think is going on. thank you

Your clutch disk is worn out and slipping badly. You can pick up a new OEM clutch, pressure plate & throwout bearing for pretty cheap.

Well, the extra cheap route is ebay, where you can probably get a set for around $80-$100. But be warned that many of them are not the best quality. Definitely do not buy anything other than OEM style p-plate and organic disk. The "racing" clutches on ebay are even crappier. I have used an ebay OEM style clutch before, and it only lasted 18k miles before it started to slip. Granted I wasn't that easy on it all the time.

A better route would be paying a bit more and getting a set through Mazdatrix, Racingbeat or others. It'll be higher quality, and should last longer.

after you replace everything, if it still does it, then you have bad syncros in the tranny itself.

Doesn't exedy fail? I've gone to http://Rock Auto and found some OEM stuff for like $120. I don't think that it's the kit though...
