my CIA i made up...kinda
well the idea isnt new, a lot of people use this are for their CAI. but i decided to use another stock intake tube. heres my picture ideas. should be complete tomorrow. only thing im worried about is if the filter will fit between the brake duct and inner wheel well cover. sorry they are big too lazy to resize them.

its been like that for 2 months. i used the bonex or bonez i forgot the name, kit and it tells you to do that in the drawing a 12 year old did for directions. worst 130$ spent ever. the only thing im adding is the extra tube to the fender.
anyone know where i can get a 45^o rubber elbow piece? doesnt fit flush with the hole im making. im most likely gonna use PVC pipe for that little bend.
any reason why i shouldnt?

The stock tube is basically the same size as the opening to the TB, plus its a lot smaller than the opening in the afm, so I don't think its restrictive. I have the bonez kit too and I think its perfectly fine. You get the same thing as all the other kits but cheaper since you aren't paying for a name. As for the afm orientation, there are directions on how to do it right on aaroncakes site here: http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/intake.htm I haven't done it myself since mine was already installed when I bought the car and I didn't realize anything was wrong until after my engine died.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I even have the spair intake hose! haha.... but, I like my windsheild fluid. We're close buddies, and I'd hate to get rid of him. haha.
That's pretty slick though. Noticeable difference? What kind of filter are you/will you be using?

bonez kit from the rx7store. seth from pure sports gave me an rx7 that was completly stripped and he had one just sitting with an engine in it. pulled out that engine, shop burnt down with the engine in it. had the whole intake included mass air flow and tubing got that sweet idea. im suprised its there cus some people went through a lot of the left over cars there.

It's over 3" in diameter, which is huge for an engine that'll struggle to break 200hp.

If PVC gets hot it will breakdown and give off noxious fumes and chemicals. Be careful

I have a similar set up. The diference is I used 3" 45 degree elbow intercooler piping from the feed end of the MAF to the cone filter and the cone sits where the washer fluid bottle used to be.. Basically what you have but instead of the stock intake tube I have 3" chrome pipes. mines A TII also. Anyway nice job.

is it weird that on my s5 the washer fluid is on the p.s. firwall?
there is a huge write up on how to do this with a honda prelude cai,
I think I will just go to a muffler shop and buy some 3" piping and go to auto zone and buy some diff. deg. of couplers.
how did you cut out that hole?

Actually, I can imagine the stock pipe is better than metal. It won't absorb heat nearly as much, and the air will be cooler. Metal get's HOT. Think about it.
As for when it's wet out, the only thing you should be worried about it damaging is your precious filter. A little water isn't going to hurt the intake.

If you're using a k&n style filter, it shouldnt be a problem since they are designed to get wet. If it gets totally soaked it might be a good idea to re-oil it, but thats it.

You're going to want to rotate that AFM so that it is either in the stock orientation or directly upside down. If you don't, gravity effects the flapper door and changes the readings. In your case, it will be pulling it closed so the car will run leaner which is likely a good thing. I have actually measured this difference (by failing emissions tests when my meter was hung so the door gets pulled open).
