my car won't start
9 out of 10 times this happens to my 86 n/a its flooding, i just hold the starter for a while, and do it a few times until it starts!
well hope that that's the problem, it costs ya nothing haha

Listen closely. Go to autozone and buy a hand pump for oil. It will fit a gallon jug. Get said gallon jug of automatic tranny fluid, or fill your own.
Raise your hood and look down. On the manifold it says injection 13b. Just below that, in front, there are 3 vac. hoses, one largest on top. Remove this one and insert the end of your pump(output end) into this hose. Pump 3-4 times with atf. Replace the hose. Wait 1 minute, start the car. IT will smoke like a biyatch, so back it away from people and houses first.
IF this does not work, you have another problem, suck as lack of spark or lack of fuel.
Both are easy to diagnose. For fuel, remove the front fuel line from the engine and crank the car. Fuel should aquirt generously. IF you get fuel here then the fuel system is good to go.
Remove a leading sparkwire and insert an old pulg. Lay it 1" next to one of the bolts under the rubber strut cover, so you can see it form in the car. Crank it over and watch for sparks. IF you have spark here, you have good spark to start the car.
IF this doesnt work, let me know. hypntyz@hotmail.com

IFyoure like me you might leave your key on and radio playing while washing the car. This can let the injectors leak fuel, since pressure is being maintained in the system with the key on.
It is my understanding that there are only 2 ways to get the fuel pump to maintain pressure in 86-88 7's. Method 1, crank the engine. This will cause the fuel pump to run as long as you are cranking. Method 2, there is enough air flow to close the switch in the AFM (that is, the engine is running).
For the above reasons, I don't think washing the car with the ignition switch on should cause a problem. imho, the most likely cause of this failure is bad spark plug wires - when they get damp, they arc to ground, the plugs don't fire, and the car floods. Good luck.

Irv's right about the fuel pump only running when the engine is cranking or something trips the micro switch in the afm. Thats as long as someone has not tricked out the fuel system by bypassing the air flow meter. And the real reason for writing is to say the fix for flooding that Kevin Landers mentioned above is a good one. I used basically the same thing on my worn out 82. When it flooded I'd just pour a cup of 30w oil down its throat and start it up. The oil replace the oil around the seals that had been washed away, which in turn lowered the compression even more than the already worn out state of the engine.
My car won't start either. At first, it was the starter and I replaced that this past weekend.
Now it at least turns over, but it isn't starting. All of these ideas are great, I'm going to go home early today and try them out. Hopefully, my car is just flooded and I won't have to replace anything else. : )
Keep these good posts coming.

There is yet another way to fix a flooded rx7. Look under the hood the the fuse box (its on the right and is about 5-6 inches long by 1 inch) take the top off (the top has a sticker telling you what each fuse does) remove the injector fuse (its a green one 2nd one from the left if your infront of the car) So just take it out, try and start for about 5 seconds. then plug it back in and your good to go. Start it up again and vrrooooooooooommm

What daryl describes is close but there are some differences. First of all, this is the wrong fuse. The fuel injection fuse is the closest to the engine. THe 2nd one, disables spark(for when you have the plugwires off the engine).
This will work for a lightly flooded engine. I post my solution because it will work for ANy flooded car, no matter how badly. This above fuse pulling trick works for some cars, and some not. ITs easier to say "do this and it will definitely work" than saying "try this, and if that doesnt work, then you need to...blah blah, if that doesnt work..."
But yeah, try the fuse pulling trick first if you think its wanting to start up.

I got the same problem, just started happening today. Did it this morning and then just now. First time it eventually started, this past time I pull the EGI fuse. And then it started, but its doing it quite regulary, theres gotta be a cause for this?
Whats got me, is this car runs perfect... Idles 100%, has tons of power, but gets shitty gas mileage, smells bad at the exhaust, and now this problem.
Seems like it only does it after sitting for like an hour or so after driving it?

MIKE P 28...
Mike p 28, do a search for a thread called "bits of FC wisdom" in the 2nd gen section. I started it a few weeks back and posted a lot of little helpful stuff, including an easy fix to your problem. Let me know if you have any toruble with it. hypntyz@hotmail.com

Thanks, checking that thread out now.
I see that Mazdatrix has a little 'homemade' tool, to releive the fuel pressure while sitting. I guess its probally a leaky fuel injector, ouch! @ $250/ea!
By the way anyone else need help, the thread is here https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=27438
Reading the thread now...(I had thought about doing that fix)
@hypntyz7
You might wanna recheck that thread, the last poster wants you to work on their car...
