Unhappy My car is starting hard!

It turns over very hard the first few turns then gains momentum and turns over faster and then starts up. What might be causing this? I cleaned both my battery terminals, but I did not re-tighten them with a ratchet. Why is my car starting hard. I am starting to get worried, and I don't want to be, so can someone tell me what this might be?

I have exactly the same problem. It always starts but it doesn't sound right. Strangely it only started doing it when I replaced a small, nearly-dead battery with the biggest, baddest one I could fit in the box. I've been told I might have pushed a maginal starter motor a bit closer to death. Anybody else had this problem?

If your battery is good(have it tested if you are not sure),and all the connections are good(ground to motor, power to starter terminal)then it can only be the starter motor. In many cases it is just the brushes which are worn and you can by a new bush yoke from Mazda for about $10 and install it in about 45mins including pulling the starter and replacig it.(Remember to disconnect the battery before you start)
