If it was me I would slow down to a legal speed. Your cooling shouldn't go that high. Unless your in 3rd gear doing 90 at which point your engine is at 7k rpm and your water pump isn't doing much.

If your car only overheats when you are going 90, then just slow down. However, if your car overheats all the time, then take it from me, don't drive it at all until you fix the problem. Coolant seals go out very easily in a rotary engine after a few overheats.

Your cooling system needs help. I was in denial about how high it would go under normal driving but when I got a new pump and thermo it hasn't even come close to overheating.

I beleive I payed on the order of 54 dollars at napa auto parts. I would first try a flush of the cooling system and replacing any and all hoses/belts that need to be replaced. If that doesn't help then go out and buy another fan clutch and swap it they are usually like 15 dollars. After that go and buy a pump and a MAZDA thermostat.

Not pump.

Thermostat!
My 88 SE would run up the scale when on the highway. I replaced the thermostat and it instantly stayed cool while driving.

Also if your almost hitting H I would be worried that you have opened the door to a blown coolant seal.

It only takes one over heating to **** with those seals.

Both my FC's let their seal go and I figure it's because of hitting H 2-3 times on each car.

the thermostat seems to be the problem with 90% of heating problems in RX-7's. Just replace it. They are 15-20 dollars from Mazda. And be sure to get ONLY a MAZDA OEM THERMOSTAT! Aftermarket thermostats will NOT work for our cars.

My car also ran hot until I replaced the thermostat, now it runs about 1/3 up the guage no matter how fast I'm going, even when driving the car hard and shifting at redline.
