my alternative setup ideas to quiet down exhaust, your opinion/experience???
Ok, so my exhaust setup is stupid loud.
The setup on my S5 NA prior to yesterday was a single 3" catback with the circular style magnaflow muffler. Tone was nice and deep.
The new setup includes the addition of a RB streetable header and Bonez free flow cat. Unfortunately, this setup is way too noisy for my taste.
Which do you think would be best in trying to quiet down the setup while still maintaing performance???...
1) Tanabe Muffler Concept G under 93+ db
or
2) Addition of a Presilencer
or
3) Non-Turbo Down Pipe with my Bonez free flow cat (this would include
putting the cast iron exhaust manifold back on. I read that the design of
the stock manifold helps in lowering exhaust noise) Not sure if this would help noise too much though?
or
4) <-your idea here!
Please post your thoughts/opinions/experience/expertise!!!
Thanks YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I have the stock manifold and its stupid loud without the right setup.
My first setup was, stock manifold -> RP down pipe w/resonator -> stock y-pipe -> ebay cans.
When I installed the RP down pipe that quieted the exhaust down A LOT. after a few hundred miles the resonator burnt out. After cutting the resonator open half the fiberglass packed glass pack that RP uses in the down pipe was gone.
Don't use anything that has fiberglass. MY new single 2.5" setup that I custom built my self has a warlock muffler that is fiberglass packed and that burnt out too along with the resonator at the tail pipe which was fiberglass packed.
So i have to cut the muffler open to repack it with steel wool. I will try the same with the resonator.
Resonators work VERY nice.

^I agree. I used to work on big rigs, and with a single stack freeflow 5" exhaust, they wouldn't pass a decible test without a resonator/presilencer.
Try a resonator right after the cat.

put a dynomax bullet muffler in the line somewhere. itll take off a little noise and also deepen the tone slightly. its stright through so non restrictive, so add 2 if needed. you can get them in 3'' and about 12'' long or 18'' long models. and they are under 50 bucks so a good deal
Thanks for the info, I had read that fiberglass has a tendancy to burn out.
Well I guess I'll try and throw on some sort of resonator and see how that works out. I'm gonna hate hacking up my exhaust though but if you're saying the stock exhaust manifold won't lower noise much I guess that's what I'll have to do.
Just out of curiousity though, is it the free-flow cat that gives the exhaust that loud raspy tone? or is it the header?

you already have a cat and a magnaflow, maybe another muffler in the catback if its somehwere around where you want it.
duals can help w/ noise, but add about 20-30lbs
