Exclamation My 90 N/A is dead

check this out, I spent over $550 on an ACT clutch only to have the pilot bearing snap one week later, so i go back to the guy who installed it and he charges me $205 to open it up and put in a $5 bearing. Ok , everything is fine right? NO! It snaps again 2 days later, now he tells me that the tranny is shot and i have to rebuild it for $1200!!! I cant put the car in gear once i turn it on, in order to move it i have to put it in gear, then turn it on but the car goes forward cuz the clutch seems to be engaged. Im, basically, dead in da water. WTF!!!! Now my dilemma is whether to sell it as it is and get next to nothing for it or wait and fix it. I want to go TII but i cant find an engine and tranny combo for a reasonable price, can any of you guys help? Im in San Jose , California. Is there anyone out there selling a TII or have access to both TII engine and tranny? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you got ripped on that one. You can find the 9lb AL flywheel with act clutch and PP with TOB and PB for $750 when you look real hard.

i go back to the guy who installed it and he charges me $205 to open it up and put in a $5 bearing.
IF you didnt have him replace it the first time, then this is your own fault. IF he did replace it and it went bad that quickly, it is still not his fault...either the bearing or the tranny itself could be bad. DO you like to work for free? Even though its a little bitty $5 part, he has to do the same amount of labor as installing that shiny $550 clutch kit.

now he tells me that the tranny is shot and i have to rebuild it for $1200!!!
Sounds like a pretty accurate diagnosis to me...however I think you can get that cost down to about $750 if you look hard enough.

Now my dilemma is whether to sell it as it is and get next to nothing for it or wait and fix it.
Maybe just get a decent mileage used tranny and install it, and go on about your business? You can pick em up for $100-250 all day long in varying conditions but always useable. In fact I have 3 on hand...

Why would you think of selling a car worth prolly $2500 in the book in good condition cause you were too cheap to buy a $200 used transmission?

How much for one of your trannies? How many miles? I can pay $200 for a tranny but how long would it last?
