My 2nd Auto trans just lost 3rd gear!
Well... Its happening slowly but surely. Today on the way to school marked the first day of seeing 3rd gear slip into 2nd (which has no gear band) so drops into 1st which is way out of the powerband. By the time I got home from school, I had to floor it to 45 in first, and hope she rolls into overdrive. Light footing it is the only way to keep her there.
Haha, This will mark transmission kill #5.
Good thing manual driveline parts are mobile. Hopefuly here sometime soon, my car is getting...very anxious.
Any things I should prepare for before the transmission swap? I'm looking at... ahem, forcing the swap into one full day (24-30 hours nonstop.) The actual tranny swap shouldn't take more than 5 hours, but I *EXPECT* at least 15 hours worth of troubleshooting and tracking down unseen problems.
Haha, this will be fun to jugle school and the car in one day to get her alright. Goonna make for one loooooong *** day though!

I would locate a set of the stock sheetmetal mounting ears and have them welded into your Chassis.
I recommend a NEW master & Slave Cylinder and clutch line.

Mmmm, for a substitution of the punchingbag, last time me and my buddy ran around the neighbor hood wearing exhaust shields and wielding transmission cooler lines pretending to be a dragon and slayer in the middle of the night. That was fun enough for some stress relief. The other thing that helped was the rotary cut off tool which was used numerous times.
Oh that and we made fun of Japanese that use a paperclips to hold driveline parts together on rx-7s.

What a coincidence! My transmission just lost overdrive, second and thrid gears! Welcome to the club my brother! God our transmissions are peices of ****. I am doing a manual transmission swap too, and then, I am going to try a new shift kit that is supposed to prevent our autos from burning up like that. It uses nice Raybestos clutches, and it shifts like mad, chirping every shift. It should deliver greater performance and durability when installed.

ouch... at least you can still use your car to go get the mail and back! I've already got mine on blocks ready to start tearing that damn bastard out.... Feels like 6 months ago I was shoving that thing in. In reality, it was only 5 months ago...
augh. I hope the manual tranny will hold up better than these damn autos. or at least hold up until next sumer. I did the auto auto last winter in the garage. All we had was a little ceramic heater. freaking -5 outside and 15 in the garage. Was awesome fun... but facking cold.

Ugh. Yeah, I guess I've got it good in that case. We don't even have a winter down here in Florida. But I also don't have a garage to do my own work, so I'm going to have to surrender my car to the garage temporarily. I'm sending it to Compact Cars in Naples. They are going to complete the whole thing for me.
