My $500 GTUs

Picked it up yesterday. Had a hell of a time getting it home. Wouldnt hold a charge and had to keep jumping it. Finally ended up pushing it for the last half mile. The car has no front bumper because 2 owners ago it hit a pole or something, not sure. The interior is pretty gutted, but the last owner said he is going to be giving me all the stuff he took out, but its at his fathers house. He's also giving me the stock wheels with good tires on them.

The Goods: It runs, yay! Has an MSD ignition setup, but only on the leading plugs, has some ok rims on it that im going to probably sell. Odometer reads 129k miles, but it doesnt work. Not sure if the speedometer works either, i was looking at the tach the whole time i was driving it, its probably busted too.

The Bad: Gutted interior
Lots of loose wires everywhere, mainly from a shotty sound system installation/removal
Alluminum hood has a small dent in it from the pole
Shift **** is horribly messed up, not sure if new bushings would even help it at this point. When i put it into second it goes in almost sideways like something is bent, its weird.
Drivers door handle doesnt work, and the key doesnt work in the passengers door.
Some idiot put S4 tails on there !!!
BIG BOTTLE OF NITROUS in the back. The engine probably doesnt have much life left on it. I knew the owner 2 owners ago, and he liked to drive around at high rpm's in 2nd gear and not shift. I tried telling him to shift and he was always like "nah bro, its a rotary, you can do this all day long". I didnt really care back then because It wasnt my car.

On a side note, someone was telling me that the GTUs wasnt the only FC to come with no sunroof, that the base model GTU also had no sunroof, is this true?

My GTU has a sunroof...

It was an option, I think.

Just consider the extra headroom a blessing

For $500, the problems seem irrelevant

Hahaha, the throttle stop is ghetto-rigged with an extra-long screw like I did once when I first started my reassembled engine (wouldn't idle).

That looks like some fairly nasty front-end damage though...

even if its not grand, for $500 you can now say you are one of the few and proud gtus owners haha. and dont feel bad about the tails, my S5 was like that too =(. someone rearended mine when a previous owner had it. and the transmissions didnt work. haha

The S5 GTU model was available without a sunroof (YES I HAVE SEEN IT PERSONALLY), although they are SUPER rare... Anyways nice find... Hopefully you can restore it the way it was meant to be...

Yah, for $500, it was a steal. I can easily make that back by selling the nitrous bottle and the rims. So its almost like it was free .

And yah, restoration is my goal at the moment.

Yah, im selling the bottle and probably the rims too. Then im yanking the engine out and having it rebuilt and most likely street ported. Gunna try and replace a lot of stuff while the engine is out too. No definate plans after that though. Turbo maybe, depending on how awesome the car will be with the street port. Might aim for the glorious 200hp NA.

The no sunroof option came on two vehicles if I am not mistaken:

s4 86 Sport
s5 89-90 GTUs

Jesus people...

The models that were AVAILABLE without a sunroof were....

'86-'87 Base (and '88 SE)
'86-'87 Sport
'89-'90 GTU
'89-'90 GTUs

Also the ONLY S4 car to come with black interior was the 10AE, and the GTUs wasn't available in S4... The GTUs came either red, white, or black, with either blue (for the white ones) or black interior... How many times must we go through this?

your shifter just needs new bushings, its really nice if you do all of the boots like on mazdatrix's site too.

make sure you have both the upper and lower nylon bushings.

Yah, im hoping a set of new bushings will fix the sloppyness and that its not a problem in the transmission or anything.
