MSD 6a ignition box?

Hey guys, I just bought an MSD 6a box, not the one with the rev imiter, and I told my friend about it. He said that it's very likely that my engine could blow if it doesn'y have a rev limiter. Is there any truth to this, I thought that rev limiters were just these little things that prevented us from revving our cars past a certain RPM?

that is what a rev limiter does. If you drive well then it wont be a problem.

i think u can get a rev limter that piggybacks onto the msd for 50 bucks or so its not a must have but nice when your doing atuocross or drifting other then that just keep your eye on your revs

Wouldnt the car retain the stock revlimit? the msd gets it signals from the stock computer, no signals, no spark

no I have no rev limiter and never had one after I installed my box with the stock coils. shouldn't be a problem if your over 3 years old and have any sort of knowledge of how to drive your car.

edit: oh yeah and even if you do go into the redline on a few occations it's not going to blow up your motor. Maybe on some v8 or something it would be a problem but rx7 are ment to rev.
