I think part of my problem is the way I mounted it (using Summit Racing nylon straps that go through the radiator)...

Did anyone use the metal brackets that came with them? I don't see a way for making them work, but i could be wrong. They seem a tad too large

 

I used the included brackets first time around, took a cutoff wheel to em so they were a bit smaller and it fit perfectly, even with the full size battery up front.

This time I'm making a new shroud that encapsulates the entire radiator and has flanges on the sides which will set right on the flanges of the radiator so it will be easy to mount with none of the heavy steel bracketry they include with the fan.
