compression test is always at the top of the list. if it passes after that, use a flashlight and verify that all parts are there and their overall condition. also make sure it is really a s5...

^Son of a... beat me to it... Look for the oil metering pump (electric=S5 has wires, mechanical=S4 has a rod to the throttle body) and the exhaust manifold (short and square bolt pattern=S5, angled and not square=S4)
W/o a starter on the engine its going to be hard to get a good compression reading... turn it over a few times and pull the plugs and look for coolant (green fluid) turn it over after pulling the plugs and see if anything comes out (water/rust=no good)
Good luck!

As well, though it'll probably be a dry engine, look in the oil and see if it's gritty, chunky or milky.
Part of that inspection can be accomplished by simply pulling the oil-fill and wiping a finger around that ridge.
Other than that, pulling the drain-plug would be a primo.

well from the last two pics it appears to be s5. the others are too tiny to tell. and also when checkin out a motor an easy way to tell its got bad coolant seals is just a smell. everyone here has to know what im talkin about. cooked oil and coolant have a very distinct smell
