More Wiper Questions

I dug through my pile of wiper switches and of the 6, I found 4 with the classic failure of low speed only working. The remaining 2, everything works except the intermittent wiper begins to work then stops and they will not auto park.

The 2 that had the most functionallity I believe should be in working order. Any idea what could be going on?

There's more than one relay in the switch that needs replacing. Usually it is only the one covered in the write up, but they all should be the same part number if I remember correctly.

Relays inside wiper switch. Your typical wiper switch repair scenario.

They must be constructed of poor quality. '89TII we purchased new only needed the wipers in 1990 then not again
until 2001 when the car was headed to KD Rotary. The freaking switch wouldn't work properly, can't remember high or low,
but it wouldn't shut off, needed to pull the connector. Aggravated, switch shot, installed new one.
Car sits in garage and hasn't been in the rain since.
Just as a point of interest, the rear wiper washer has never been used.................. Maybe I should give it a try to see
if operable.

Nah, it's the lack of use that's the problem, I think. Sounds like a relay was sticking. These things like to be used.

No, they're just not good quality.

I rest my case, something wrong with 6 out of 6, and if one were to look at the wiper switch problems over the years, the problems and lack of quality is quite evident.
Got an '04 Acura TL that sees maybe 3,000 miles per years, 10+ years old and no problems with any switches/navigation, but did have a driver's side power lock actuator problem.

So I fixed the switches that had the LO only symptom and now they have both LO and HI but no INT. So at this point I have 6 switches with LO and HI but no INT. I don't think its an issue with the relays, I am begining to think there is something going on with the way the motor senses park.

I'm not sure there is a lack of quality with the relay. These Omron relays are actually pretty high quality. They are spec'd for 8 amps and my guess is the wipers are pulling more than that.

Sorry but it's not clear what you mean when you say fixed. Did you replace any relays? Which? Did you test the old one before (wiper switch fix how-to) and new one after? It does seem you checked the traces so that's good. Also, any solder joints where the plugs are should be resoldered after removing the old solder (i.e. desoldering bulb, or even better, spring plunger).

I can't disagree with this assertion, but my statement was the switch as a whole.

Sorry, I was just looking through my subscribed threads and saw that this had been replied to.

I figured this out a while ago now but I thought I would let you know you were right on. It was the ground after ohming out everything i found that the ground wasn't connected properly.
