Exclamation Model Differences in FC3S Question!

Hi there. I'm thinking about trying to get an FC3S and have found a good deal on a '90 FC, but its a GXL. What does that imply, is it the 2+2 model, because I'd prefer a 2 seater.

Also, do the 2+2s have a longer wheel base, or is it the same as for the coupe? I'm concerned with handling (probably too much. lol)

Lastly, are the brakes and suspension different from model to model? I know the Turbo had 4-pot front brakes. If I got a normally aspirated FC I'd plan on upgrading to a turbo motor eventually (after massaging it a bit... I'm just starting to learn about rotaries), and I'd like to not have to upgrade the brakes and suspenstion with turbo parts as well.

I apologize for sounding a bit, disjointed, but I'm juggling several tasks at once here... lol

Thank you!

all FC's are the same length and wheel base.

if its a 90GXL that means it prob has the options of leather, sunroof, cruise. i doubt it has the 2+2 seating...it "could" but they are rare to have the back seats.

as for the brakes and suspension. the turbo and GTUs models i "think" have the same brakes and suspension, and the LSD rear. the 89-90 GXL's had this "auto adjust suspension" button, but form the concensus on the forum it was kinda useless...

as for the 1991 models...since there was no designated trim level besides coupe, turbo, and convertible...you can find a wide array of option combinations. for instance my 1991 is basically a GXL with leather and all the options, but it also has the 4 piston front brakes where i'm not sure if the past GXL's had them (or the GTU for that sake). i've yet to lift up the back and spin the wheels to test for LSD, but judging by the way it acts around a corner, i'm thinking it might...good luck

Allright... that said, how hard is it to find TII suspension and brake components, calipers, rotors, struts, that kind of thing? I really care more about handling than all out speed, so that would be the first thing I'd do. I just really dont want a 2+2. I'd buy a TII straight, but well, I'm lucky to have found any FC at all in my area. I've only ever seen *one* FC in like, 5 years in this town (Chico, CA). And this car is white, my favorite color for FCs.

Anyways, if I do get the car *crosses fingers*, I suppose I'll start posting here more, as I dont want to keep her stock for very long.

The GXL had the good brakes as far as I know.As far as suspension just get some good after market struts and maybe some good springs(I've heard in the suspension section that Racing Beat's are good)and you'll be set.The front anti-roll bar is the same for all models. The rear bar is smaller on the standard suspension than on the sport suspension package. The TII had the sport package as did the GTUs for that year.I'd guess the GXL did also but I'm not sure.Hope this helps.

Fc3s 2+2 is no different then any other FC3s model.
Same lenght as the TII or other FC3s. The 2+2 seats fit right where the rear containers on the regular models go. BTW 2+2 seats were NOT meant for grown ups nevertheless are great for kids. All FC models are 2+2 ready. Meaning that if you were to take out the rear cabinett compartments all the holes needed for installing a set of 2+2 seats will be there. If anything I've found out that by not having the rear cabinetts will save some weight since you won't have all the extra room to put stuff inside.

I dont know why I'm interested in having a pure 2 seater.... but its well, attractive to me. I really dislike having more than one passenger in my car.... and I guess a 2 seater feels more sporty.

That said, how does the NA model handle? I mean I'm sure you guys are biased... but this will be my first RWD car (if I get it), and well, while I *want* RWD, I dont want to kill myself either.... lol

The RX-7s were meant to be 2 seaters ONLY to begin with. the last thing I'm going to bring about a 2+2 is that it doesn't look ugly as the 300zx 2+2.
Anyhow the FC3s N/A handles GREAT!
Much better than an FB or a BMW 325is, I love my GTU.
It gets much better if you were to compansate the suspension with lower springs and sway bars and an upper strap bar.
You'll really feel the true difference then.

The original 2Gen concept was adopted by Mazda in April 1982. Three different exterior styles and two different interiors were created. The design which was finalized in the middle of 1983 had a rear hatch glass intended to accommodate a 2+2 version. The 2Gen was intended as a 2+2 long before the first one left the factory in 1985.

2nd and 3rd Gens are 2+2 from the factory except for convertible models. In Japan it is consider anti-social to drive a 2 seater car.

That's what I've heard so take it with a grain of salt.
