Misinformed about the GTUs
This guy is misinformed some how, unless I am. Seems to be claiming that Kilo Racing is the culprit I believe?

It sounds like flubyux2 pretty much has a grasp of the car. However, the 88 GTU was the first RX-7 named for Mazda's success in that racing class, not the GTUs. There was no requirement for the manufacturers to make a "GTU" production version of their GTU race car, as any other model (GXL, SE, TurboII, etc.) would have counted for production numbers. I would imagine that the low production numbers were because nobody really wanted that trim.
The GTU had the same engine as the other S5 non-turbo cars, including the rotors.

I think mazda made a big mistake when they changed the model names throughout the years. If it werent for the forum I would have never known.
