Misfire in high RPMs

Sup guys. Just wanted to see if you guys had any clues on a misfire when I rev to around 1.5k-3k not loaded. I would hear poping noise in my exhaust. But when I drive, there is no misfire. It drives strong but my car is running pig rich. I believe I have a vaccum leak somewhere because I had to richen up the mixture at idle. I drilled a hole in the plug at the MAF to richen it up. I'm running around 4% CO at idle and my HC is around 600-900. I'm not running any emissions. Another thing also, when the car is started cold. The misfires are more noticeable but after like 5 seconds, it would ease down. I pulled the upper intake manifold so many times. I replaced the gaskets, grommets, vaccum lines.. It may not seem like a big problem but it got me stumped. I know I gotta have a vaccum leak somewhere. The car can idle at 1k fine but u can see the engine shake a lot. Like it misses. Could it possible that the trailing coil is going? I hooked up my timing light to the trailing and I would see the light miss and its not as steady as the leading coil. Maybe I'll pull all my block off plates and re-do the gaskets. Or I'll try propane. Carb cleaner for finding vaccum leaks are dangerous. Any clues would help. I'm very open for suggestions. Thanks for the time to read this long post. Every little bit helps when gas prices are skyrocketing.

ah, yeah... try paragraphs next time...

Use Spray in starting fluid for finding vac leaks. Much safer

and it is normal for a rotary to pop/mis-fire on Lift throttle, but is masked by the factory ACV, air pump, and cats. Is this popping happening whne you lift throttle or???

and 1.5-3K RPM is not high RPMs

after u find vac leaks and replaced them, with your car tuned up and in good mechanical condition, i see that a CDI will solve that problem if not completely then partly.

for my car, after I installed the Crane Hi-6 CDI the poping during idle went away... sometimes i hear it once in a while, but it is much better.

so look into that =)

Yeah... I have an MSD 6a on the way (jeeze.. that rhymes)

Anyway... I've tuned the **** out of my haltech... still get the popping at idle and during free rev every now and then.. its called a rotary with no load on it!!!! Rotaries like to run rich at idle and at free rev.... mine prefers 12.9 AFR, leaner it hun hun hunts.. richer it dan dan dances..

Tweaking the trailing split on the haltech at idle helped a lot, but thats not an option on a stock ECU

Most people agree that the hotter, multi-spark ignition boxes help this a lot, especially if you combine that with fuel management.

sounds to me more like afterburn rather than a misfire. If you are running pig rich, chances are it is just fuel being burnt off in the exhaust

Hey guys,

Yeah, I'm sorry about the one big paragraph.
To Icemark, Yeah, it's happening when I lift the throttle. It wouldn't really matter where in the RPM range, It would miss. You could see the RPM drop a bit when it pops. I'm thinking its ignition related. I tried again today to see where I could be leaking vaccum. Still no luck. And I consider 3k higher RPM but I wanted you guys to know it does happen around idle 0800-1.5k RPM's.

Also, with the CDI, I thought about putting one in but I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything. I didn't want to throw a CDI in to mask a problem that could be there. That's why I'm here asking for suggestions. If I'm all out of ideas and don't find any problems, I'll probably throw a CDI in Thanks again guys for the replies.
