Minor problem now major? I'm confused....

Well 2 weeks ago I had my car inspected. Then I went out and did 40 minutes or so of spirited driving on a small mountain's road. Car ran perfectly fine the whole time.

Later in the night... maybe 4 hours later.. I try to start the car. For a while my car has had trouble idling. So for the first 5-10 seconds after it starts I have to bounce the tach a little bit before it'll stop acting like it wants to die at idle.

Well this night I did it for 2 minutes and it never stopped. Tried again and let it die to see if it'd live... I had to leave in a hurry so I got in the Honda and left.

Next day it was warmer and I tried again (had been pretty cold the night before..). Well it was about the same... Except it seemed after 10 seconds or so like the gas suddenly got harder to press on. I couldn't hold it at some number of RPMs without feeling like I had to press harder and harder. So it seemed like the pedal was now resisting being pressed.

I was sick at the time so I didn't want to mess with the car any. Then I go off on a 5 day trip.

I come back today and start the car up to see what it's doing and to start messing with it......

Except the car didn't start.

Here's what I've got now:

I turn the key and the car starts cranking. You know the whirring sound our cars do when starting up? Well now mine does it at a slightly higher pitch and a little more quietly. It seems after 3-5 seconds like there's a "thunk thunk thunk" under the car. And the car seems to jolt lightly with the thunks.

Any clue what this is???

This sounds bad - like maybe she let go.
A compression test will tell.

You next decision is likely to be rebuild or J-spec..

Spark plugs are about 5 months old. Injectors are a little over a year old.

Yeah, I'd really hope against the engine having problems........ I had it rebuilt in Nov 2004.......

Well I tried it again to listen to what it sounded like and see what happened.

Well, the car sounds normal again, but doesn't start. So I figured, "Ok, I probably let it die off last time, so it must be flooded." So I did the unflooding procedure... nothing. It still just turns and turns and turns. What else could cause this?
