I installed a Mindtrain header tonight into my 1991 N/A , but as you can see from these pictures, there is some interference with the frame.

Has anyone else experianced this problem with a Mindtrain or other header header?

Does anybody know what that mounting tab is for?

Maybe I could just cut the tab off?

That is for one of the protective covers under the car.

 

The big one about 3 feet by 3 feet?

Does the position of the engine mount look right? ie. not too low?

 

I'd cut that peice off and let the headers sit the way they want to. I don't run heatsheilds, my floor gets warm, but i also don't have any heat so... it's nice.

Best people to ask would be... mind train i suppose.

 

I was just looking at my earlier post in this section and the pictures that I took during the install.

Could the engine be installed with a slight lean towards the passanger side? Maybe I could loosen
off the engine mount bolts and the trans crossmember bolts and position the engine in a more upright stance?
This should give more clearance on the header side.

This is a side effect of the Mind Train header design... They have a larger radius than other headers. Supposedly this is a better design than pacesetter headers that shoot strait down from the exhaust ports.

Cut that tab. It's never used (Not even for heat sheilds). Consider it it weight reduction.

First off, it's hard to tell from the pic, but it almost looks like your motor mount is turned around. On the top of the motor mount near where the stud comes out that the aluminum brace bolts to, there's a little round "nub" sticking up. The nub needs to go to the bottom, in the slot in the aluminum arm. Looks like it's up top in the picture - hard to tell, though.

Are the motor mounts new/in good shape? A broken/sagging passenger side motor mount can cause problems.

Anyhow, if all else fails, chop that tab off. I think that's just there for the crossbrace that's on the convertibles to bolt to.

I know the 'nub' that you are referring to, I had to rotate it to (I think) the proper position for the engine
mount to sit flat on the frame motor mount. I'm pretty sure that it is in the 'down' position. But I'll check
