Talking might be buying a s5 vert

hey guys my buddy is going in the marines. He is basically giving me this rx7 of his. Its a 89 with a low mileage motor. It has about 85k or so on it. Its in ok condition. The tranny was replaced with a s4 tranny apparently. Its making some clunking noise and seems to be hesitating. What im wondering is if this is worthy of a project car. Im planning on a turbo for her. Now should i turbo the 6port or leave it alone and swap in a turbo II motor? blah maybe i shouldnt even buy the car lol.

where is there a good place to get a turbo motor. Its a s5 so i guess i have to go with s5 turbo II, apparently they are rare correct? I think im going to get this from my buddy. Ive been thinking another rx7 or a fox body 302. What manifold do you need if you are going to turbo the n/a motor. What engine management do you guys go with? thanks for the help all see ya,
Kevin.

Turboing a N/A block is a long process that is going to require $$$. The easiest thing to do is just get the S5 T2 motor. I recommend a J-Spec that way you get almost all periphials needed. But I wouldn't throw the J-Spec in without rebuilding it first.

why is that? The thing that sucks is i live in colorado, there is 1 freaking shop that specializes in rotary, everybody else is crappy and expensive. Ive never rebuilt a engine i probably shouldnt start on a rotary.

what engine management system do you guys run? Or is it better to not have a stand alone. Here's my application. Big turbo, Big boost, lots of fuel and hopefully in the range of 350hp/300 tq

If your willing to go for a 6port turbo your already spending a butload of cash and you will be doing all sorts of mechanic work, plus It would be cheaper if you rebuild yourself. There are quite a few videos online and there are shop manuals that will help.

I shouldn't talk because I'm not done rebuilding my first rotary but I am waiting on some parts to make it happen. I have rebuilt a v92(dualv8 twin turbo) before but this rotary makes me feel jumpy inside.

ok thanks. Is there some links? I already have rotary resurrection. I need basically like a step by step engine rebuild for a 13b turbo or n/a. Thanks guys,
Kevin.
