Miata Short Shifter...

Well,

Got it install a few weeks ago and all works perfect. Only problem right now is the shift **** that came with it is metal and gets extremely hot and I am not much for the design.

Anybody happen to know of any good ***** to fit the miata shifter?

Mike

I went back to the stock **** after installing a short throw shifter.
My prior old school wood ball was cool, but didn't have enough weight.

phantom, does your shifter require excessive force to get into gear? I also have a miata short shifter and its much harder to shift over stock.

Well, at first the shifter was extremely tight and I wasn't sure wether I even wanted it or not but over the past few weeks it has either loosened up or I have got used to it lol.

Either way now it seems easier to shift through.

Is the S5 a direct fit onto the Miata shifter?

I know the S4 is to big.

did you sand the small plastic cup that the bottom of the shifter goes in it may
free it up some more. I have heard that this is supposed to be done durring
install of the miata short throw anyways

Yes the S5 is an EXACT fit to the Miata shifter

BTW my shifter was pretty tight at first. I took out one of the spring washers that sits on the bushings(and left it out)and put a little grease on all the moving surfaces in and around the bushings. Mine did finally loosen up after a wearing in period!!!

Yeah, I did the same as above.

I removed that spring washer as well and just used plenty of lube and so far so good.

Any idea what shifter **** will fit on the miata short shifter first part of the two peice shifter the one with the big threads. I search but could not find. Thinks BTW i had to grind down some of the ball were the plastic bushing go's on i took of about a 1/16" of the bottom and it shifts alot easer.

Yeah, they do fit.

Here is the type on ebay:

Here is a write up on install as well:

With an S5 the stock shift **** fits as well. A plus unlike my S4.
