What do you mean by "boot"? There are several shifter-related "boots".

You have seen Karack's write-up in the archives, right?

the whole point of this thread was to get ideas (gergrx7) time is one thing I do not have alot of that is why I throw out these threads. I like feedback from more than one person. If I wanted 1 persons opinion I would read manuals only, thats what makes these forums so great.
Thank yous to all who like to answer questions at hand and not refer to the archieves.
Ok off my soapbox, I will be a little more spacific. The ruuber boot attached to the shifter itself see picture below is what I am looking to replace. Thanks again for any help.

Yeah dime a dozen. About $30 from your local Mazda dealer. Less from Mazdatrix but they hit you with shipping.
Part number: M509-17-480A Boot, Dust.
Cut the old one off if it won't slide off. Remove some of the rubber that looks like it's held on with a zip tie. Oil up the new boot and side it on from the top.

BTW what Maita shortshifter should I look for and where did you find yours - turn abouts fair play for my lazyness
Regard,
Crispy

Now see that was exactly what I wanted to hear, THANKS Crispy. I actully found mine on the for sale thread but if you now of anyone who races the SCCA there is always a miata or two that races and check one of them out. This thing is really nice other than the boot and it cost a hell of alot less than the any other SS. Eric
