Honestly, I don't think I'd ever change out the stock shift ****. It's the best shift **** I've ever had in any car, it's really comfortable to shift with, and you can throw it around pretty quick when shifting fast.
Nope, I hate the stock shift ****, it sits nearly 1" higher than my Momo **** and the shift throw is longer with it compared to my Momo Airleather. As soon as I can get a Shortshifter that shifts like my WRX with a Shorthshifter, Ill be happy

No really, I have the stocker too, just haven't found anything that screms out to me, and the stock one works damn well. MAybe if I was using the car as a track car/DD then maybe I'd have a shorty. But for the day to day, I don't want to have to force the thing around.
I wonder if my tranny is about to blow, or something else? cause it gets so damn hot , just from driving. In about 20-30 minutes of stop and go the damn car is cooking. And I don't redline it every gear either( actually have never redlined it in every gear) The whole center console cooks, and it's not just because of the Angry South Florida sun. I know that black leather gets damn hot in the sun, but as someone else said before, that's what sun shades are for!( and If there's space to keep one in a vert, then there's space in all the 7's for one!) There is a noticible difference from sun hot and tranny cooking hot. The tranny heat comes up and through everything, you can feel it all around the center console. If you feel the boot, or anything right next to it, it's damn hot, almost too hot to touch.
But that nice Stock shifter just stays nice and warm. Not a biggie though, but I am getting my tranny flushed out next week.
Prevention is better than a Cure.
And I can't afford a new tranny now!

I have yet to find anything that beats an old school wood ball.
Easy to grip, sensitive, not too much inertia, stays cool, can be drilled to fit tight & sit low on the shift lever.
Here it is on my previous NA.
That's a short piece of heater hose covering the metal ring & set screw.

The same **** migrated to the turbo.

To keep on task, I have a metal **** in the Miata, and I love it.. Once I get my Miata shift kit, then i'm going to get a metal **** for the 7.
