Maybe I'll have to come out and see it next week. I was thinking about going skiing next week for a day and have to drive right through Sac to get to Sugar bowl or Donner.

As to the noise, since I have a 'vert I am much more sensitive to the noise levels. The 3000 RPM drone gets real old fast when driving all day in the 'verts.

And you rate them by going to the very bottom of the thread and selecting the rate this thread. 5 stars usually get archived.

Time to post another reply . I am glad that most of you like it, Mazdaspeed7 being the exception *PokePoke*. Mazdaspeed what do you not like about the sound? I think it sounds awesome, got a good grrrrr down low and it does not drone like a 5.0 with flow masters on the freeway. Like Kevin said the power up top is super nice, but the low end has suffered. Time to get those 6 ports working again .

On the smog subject. Have you ever seen a semi truck compression brake going down a hill? That 1 big *** smoke cloud has got to pollute more than 100 tanks of gas worth of driving in a out of tune rotary with no cats. IMHO smog is not a bad thing but it just puts the blame and stress on the wrong people.

what do you mean you can't backfire???

I'll post my method soon of true dual sys on a S5 that allows for removal of AP and ACV and the VDI and 6 ports still open, you'll be able back fire again!!

Yo,

I'm tellin' ya, it don't backfire! The only thing it does at high R's when you shift is kind of like a heartbeat: LUB DUB! Each exhaust gives a baby backfire burp. No more POW! *sniff*

Anyone got a hanky?

It's no secret, I love rarest's car!! he only uses quality parts to hop up his GTUs and the car is cleeeeean and well taken care of. I'd like to think of my own NA in the same company though I have a ding or two in the car and, well...it ain't no GTU's hehe the simplicity in rarest's car is what rocks and makes it stand out of the crowd where as my slammed coilovers, 17's mazdaspeed lip and 'skirts & the Dual N1 is drastically less original hehe What I wanna know is HOW IS THAT CAR SO CLEAN and how are those wheels SO white!!! lots of summer projects on the way though, TII swap (the darkside awaits, kevin of RR is prepping my motor), fresh paint (again) w/ RE Type 4 wing. I'll throw up some current pics tonight if someone will host

SHWEET btw, the motor should be done in a week or 2 then the rex can go under the knife. I also have the cusco lower arm bar en route from Japan and the V-brace that bolts to the rear strut brace. I don't believe I've seen anyone w/ the V-brace before and I'm told it mounts on the bar and extends to the floor...I'll take lots of pics upon install and snap a few to post tonight when I leave the office.

Well, you guys have to remember I bought the car with 38,000 miles on it. It's reaching about 68,000 miles right now. I basically hosed out the engine bay and it shined like new. It's been a California car probably its whole life, so no rust or salt to worry about.

I've just recently been using Meguiars Gold Glass Instant Wheel Cleaner on my rims and my work's steam cleaner. Basically takes a PITA 1 hour job into 10 minutes. It's making me rethink the white TE37 swap.

About the way my car looks, like you said, I try and keep it simple:

Those are all stock pieces from the front lip to the rims. I really like the way the car looks stock so I just keep it that way. *grin*

Same with the inside:

Throw on a Sparco suede wheel, a OMP shift ****, some genuine leather boots for the shifter and ebrake, and some of Sled Driver's custom pedals and voila! Stock...yet cool!

I'm glad you guys dig my car as much as I do!

I'm trying to get down to the Bay Area to dyno the car. I dyno'ed 140 with the old exhaust, with the new one I'm trying to be realistic and say 145-148.

Don't worry, I'll let you guys know when I do it. Then I'm going to go crazy with the TB/Intake/Sleeves/S-AFC then dyno again.

Definitely post the before and after dyno charts, with mods listed for each. I'm doing suspension before exhaust, so a new exhaust is still a long way off, but it seems it has required way more thought and research than throwing together a good suspension set-up.

Now get the aux ports & VDI working so that low end growl means something.

In traffic, I short shift at 3500, so I made sure mine were working.

I think the growl sound is because of the way the staggered pulses from the tips have to travel to get to the driver.

Suspension is the best place to start IMHO .

Hey RarestRX I have an 88 GTU with white Kosei K-1 racing rims and everyone loves my car. I see that you have a Sparco steering wheel.

I have seen a few Sparcos that I really liked and was wondering what size wheel you got and what size wheel is stock? I would like something a tad smaller than the stock wheel and with a flat section on the bottom....I know they have some but I don't know sizes of the stock wheel.

-Lee

BTW- Are you going to use your air pump to actuate your ports or are you going to buy an rpm switch and rig something up? I would like to actuate my ports as well but have no airpump on my 88 anymore =(

RarestRx: I wish I had a black interior...looks tip top!!

Rotary Racer, check your e-mail...I sent some pics of the front/rear/interior of my NA. The current suspension setup is GC/KYB coilovers and Tein pillowball mounts, energy suspension master kit (polyurethane), Grex front strut bar, Cusco rear bar, (cusco V brace and lower arm bar on the way), TII sway bars (this is a base model, 88 SE), stainless lines, hawk pads, fresh rotors/fluid.

The motor has the standard mods; K&N, my own custom 2.5 inch downpipe & racepipe, Apexi Dual N1, removed AP, UR pulley, RB aluminum flywheel, CF dual friction clutch, HKS ground kit. The AFM is leaned out and I run a solid 850 celcius EGT @ WOT in 3rd...she runs strong.

Excuse the S4 tails, I got a bit of condensation in my driver's side S5 tail and I'm looking for a clean one (I took the condensation out w/ a heat gun but it was a ratty light - the studs were EPOXIED in by whoever sold them to me. I have a brand new OEM passenger S5 tail I got practically for free (hehe my lil secret) so the driver's one has to be MINT My TII motor is being built now. The motor is going to start as a stock TII w/ a walbro, 720cc secondaries, FCON and ported wastegate. Once broken in I'll get the GReddy front mount (my brother got a SICK price from the shop). I def. need a TII hood for the swap though...(hint hint) The plan is to do the conversion, fresh paint and the RE type IV wing. I'm looking to sell these wheels for Black Racing Pro N1 in bronze. I'm keeping this color (OEM Mazda, Claret Mica) and I'm looking for S5 mouldings and an S5 rear bumper. During the swap I'll be driving my GVR4, 18G, FMIC, 22psi
