I personally don't care for the MX-6s because they are front wheel drive. I don't like the FF set up in any car but if it's just for daily driving then I don't see why you shoudn't buy one. If it's what you want and your getting a good deal then go for it.

I tend to agree... while I think the 93-97 was very attractive, driving it still feels very front heavy and front wheel drive like. This same feeling for me is found on every Honda I have ever driven (except a s2000 and NSX).

The 626 for the same years actually feels more tossible and slightly better balanced (although considerably more body roll).

Thinking if you needed 4 seats and didn't have a lot of money the MX-6 is a great choice. But they are no RX-7

The Pre-93 models are also (like the 91-95 accord) very hard to get good bass and stereo sound in because of the body shape and structure.

I drive a 95 626 daily and it has never had any problems outside of the tranny. But the tranny had to be replaced 3 times under warranty. If you get a manual you may avoid this but from my experience mazda's automatics are POOP!

agree with everything already said and I'll like to add that the 2nd gen MX-6 leaks water on the passenger side carpet (A/C related).

Actually that automatic was built here in the states rather than by Mazda Japan.

But yes it was a weak tranny

the v-6 versions were actually pretty fast. they were based on the same platford and the ford probe, they are the same cars just different body lines. I have raced v-6 probes before with my n/a when it was stock back in the day. I could beat them off the line to about 45-60 mph, then the probe just pulled on me. It has a lot of torque. I know that probe gt's handle extremely well also, but idonn't about the mx-6's. I don't think the mx-6 is a bad car at all.

Actually stock for stock the mx6 is almost a full second faster than the NA 7s. Its just alot of them are autos and all front wheel drive.

nice thing about the mx-6's/probes is they are very easy to mod. Plenty of aftermarket available, and have a strong following. The 2.5L KL v6 is a really sweet sounding motor.

My friend has a 6... man what a sleeper. He has a nice body kit on it... makes it look like a totally different car. The ncie thing about them is they aren't as common as probes... It isn't a car you'll see 20 of every time you drive down the road. They are easy to mod, and are very clean cars. My friend runs intake headers exhaust and a 55 shot of ZEX Nitrous and the car takes almost everyone by suprise. I say, if you have the $, go for it. I don't like the look of the first gen's tho... they just look too prehistoric. But the first gen does offer a turbo, stock... just some ideas and opinions to throw your way.

I have an '88 MX-6 GT and have no regrets.

2.2i turbo/5 speed. I did 142mph in it 100% stock with no mods whatsoever.

Has active handling adjustable suspension (which is good for factory), can lay 10ft + rubber from 1st to 2nd gear slam, looks kinda like an old school Nissan Skyline (maybe stretching the truth a little).

But the car has very comfy seats, huge trunk, decent stereo, and can keep up with the new WRX's on the freeway!

Damn, you're lucky.&nbsp Mazda service centers HATE these things with a passion!&nbsp For some reason, those cars were riddled with all kinds of problems, and the Mazda dealers knew that.&nbsp Talk to one of their mechanics, and they will shudder when you mention these cars.

My MX-6 was an '89 and if I had been nice to it I wouldn't have had very many problems. All of the major repairs stemmed from my abuse.

Love the MX-6's

I drive RX-7's and MX-6's... up until recently they have been the only cars that I really liked in terms of looks and drivability. So, I am a bit biased, but.....

I am on my second MX-6 (a 1995). both have been LS V6's with 5 spd... completely loaded (first one was a 93). Fun cars.... classy looking. Much more pleasant to drive than a 2nd gen. RX-7 (yes, i do know, I've had three)

They do not handle as well as the FC's... they are front heavy and pretty light in the ***... but they are just as fast if not faster.... im comparing this to the 89-91's so Im sure that they can destroy a stock 86-88

its funny, when i got the first 6, it made me hate driving my FC, so it was even more motivation to suck it up and get an FD....

ample power... good gas mileage... reliable...... great daily driver.... large trunk... decent to good stock radio (with CD player that is) .... REALLY comfortable seats

not enough space for rear passenger... there are a few things that they are susceptible to..... the front axles/steering mechanisms.... CV joints may need replacing with higher miles.... the engines run run at insanely high rpms on the highway... higher than rotaries....the valve covers wear quickly.. try to get a 95 to 97 as they worked out some of the quirks of the 93-94 models (sticky e-brake, lack of soundproofing, etc)

DO NOT GET AN AUTOMATIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!

other than that, i am very happy with them

PS, the 96 M-Editions have cool colors, gold wheels and an in-dash 3-cd changer... in case you were interested.. but not really worth the higher resale value IMO

No the guy never wanted to pay, well he gave me $1000 bucks and then backed out. HAHA I got to keep the money. I spent it on a pair of MOMO seats that are getting put in right now by PAUL`S TIRE & AUTO.
And yes i still would like the turbo hood if you can get it.
I have the bracket and can drop it off this weekend maybe!
also have you talked to Aron, I want to get together with him this weekend so I can get some parts off of his parts car.
Anyway I think I might just buy a 6 to drive around till the 7 is done.
thanks for all your comments.

MX-6

I have a 93 FD and I sold my 93 MX-6 not too long ago, not by choice. My wife left to the Air Force so i had to let the MX go. I loved that car.
It will never compare to the RX7 but great sports sedan. I am looking for another one as a daily driver.
The car now has 140K miles, It was sold to my sister in law and still Very reliable, Confortable Interior, Seats are great and drives very nice. Ive driven Hondas and other cars in their category. I liked the MX6 the best, except for the 97 240SX...I guess it was cause it was rear wheel drive.

But i would...let me take that back.>>>I am gonna buy another MX-6. I want it in Silver 5 speed V6 model now. I had a black one.

in 140K miles the only problem i had with the MX6 was the CB Boots for the front, They are kind of weak and they go out around 90K. Other than that, NO major repairs have been done...

Id say Go for it..

I owned an Aussie 1989 626 Turbo, it was a fantastic car and although hard to mod here in Australia, it was a definite sleeper. People would ask me 'Is that really a turbo?', and before they could finish saying it the thing would sprint 2 car lengths ahead and torque steer past them.
It ran 17" wheels no problems and the suspension was lowered by 2 1/2" and nothing ever rubbed even under load. For a front wheel driver they are damn quick if you can manage to keep the gearbox together

I own a '93 mx-6 that I'm very pleased with. That little v-6 runs real hard and with 160 hp and 164 ft. lbs in a 2600 or some odd pound car it gets around pretty decently. Do'nt get it for a passenger car...the back seat has about zero headroom. Overall though, i'd say that if you can find a decent one it'd be a go. Hell, i'll sell you mine...I do'nt have a license and its just sitting. Email me at c_mart_28@hotmail.com if you want info. Overall though, its just a fun, realiable car that looks real nice IMO. They take well to body kits and other exterior mods. The KL-series isn't as easy to mod as you'd think, but its not impossible. Right now I have only CAI and exhaust work done to it, and it'll hold strong with my TII off the line until you get decently into 2nd. Pretty decent sleeper and a car that'll just run forever if taken care of properly.

I personally like the MX6 a lot, it's FWD (damn I hate that), but you can work around that (make the rear suspension stiffer than the front, voila! less understeer). Anyway I think they're a pretty prime swap for a rotary (not sure how it'd go about it, but the stock V-6 is pretty nice and a good platform to play with...heck I drove the 4 cylinder also and it's not too bad either)...take that back I'd just stick with the stock engine or the V-6 GT model, just can't see the rotary in that car (quick change of heart huh?). As for style I think it doesn't get any better than the MAZDASPEED A-Spec kit (gorgeous!!!), I think it's at corksport.com

I say go for it and have it as a daily car (oh yea...damn the automatic ).
