Sounds like the master as long as there are now visible leaks. Thats what happened on my brakes last week. The pedal would just go to the floor every now and then, which made me believe the fluid was bypassing the seals on the piston in the master. Have you tried to bleed it?

also try line locking the clutch if it builds pressure you have air in the lines. if not you have a bad master. but also you could have a bad slave if the pressure builds up when you line lock it

Just replace both units- and the hose, too- and be done with it.

they sell the tool at kragen for a few bucks. just ask them for a line lock. you use it to pinch the clutch line down so the fluid can't move. if you don't see any visible leaks but you are losing fluid(idk if you are) pull back the carpet on the inside of the car. again i don't know if you are losing fluid.

but you said you saw air bubbles in the fluid. if you see them i would gravity bled the system for about 15-20 minutes just to make sure.
