So aside from running the boost gauge and determining if an overboost condition exists or not, does the pressure sensor do anything? (affect timing or fueling mostly).

I'm just wondering, because I was dealing with a horrible misfire issue and today the vacuum line popped off and now the car runs great. soooo, I think i finally found the problem. And I'm just trying to figure out why it's causing one.
