Manually turning pulley?

I'm trying to line the engine up with TDC so i can install a distributor, how do i turn the pulleys to get them to line up? Is it similar to manually turning a crank on a piston engine?

Yes, just turn it with your hand or wrench.

looking from the front bumper, you turn it to the right? it doesn't seem to want to co-operate with my hand so where do i put the wrench, on the main pulley?

I usually use the main pulley bolt, which is a 19mm.
Make sure the transmission is not in gear!
If the belts are all on, you can use the alternator nut which is slightly larger - 23mm?
Crank over clockwise...this is the way the engine spins.
