manual trans crossmember

planning auto to manual trans swap. read up in the forum and everybody talks about building a custom trans mount. why can't you take the trans mount out of a manual donor car and put it in the receiving car? is that not possible.

I think that the auto's didn't come with the stuff needed to hook it up. Not sure tho. The cross member isn't that expensive to buy new it would cost around 100 dollars with competition mounts too. I dunno. :/

I have an auto parts car. But it doesn't look like my 5spd. other than that I don't know why not. And you shouldn't "torch it out" it unbolts as far as i know.

don't torch it out just un bolt it. When i bought a used manual trans it came with the crossmember... this should be pretty standard.

The crossmember sits about 6 inches further back on the automatic. Which is why they don't line up. You could cut out where the bolts bolt into the car on the manual car and weld them to the automatic car. But if you have a donor car it's much easier to just drop the engine into the manual one, depending on the condition of the car of course. That way you don't have to mess with the pedals, rewire the starter, swap rear ends, and install various interior parts, etc...

the dude at rotaryressurection told me not to bother with it. in order to torch and weld safely i would have to pull the carpet and foam to prevent fires. i don't know what i'll do exactly but i will investigate both cars and report my findings in the future. thanks to everyone for the input.
