manifold swap
manifold swap
hey guys,
I never really post, but I sure do read a lot. I am new to the rx-7 world ( I love it so far). Yes, I do know about the search feature and use it quite often. You people are very, very helpful. You sure know yer stuff. I am glad that there is an informative site such as this with helpful people. Anyway, now on to my question. I have searched and found that it is generally recomended, but what do I need to do the s4 to s5 intake manifold swap? I have an entire intake on the way. Just bolt everything on? s5 throttle body?, fuel rail? different injectors?
Please help. Maybe walk me through it. Thanx
greg

You can use the S4 TB, use your S4 injectors (S5's have higher impedance(sp) ones and they won't work with your ECU). I would use the S4 fuel rail if it will bolt up. I can help you through it if you need, but you should be able to figure it out on your own pretty easily.
Greg,
Use the write up on the Carl Davis page, it covers most of it - but don't replicate the hose plumbing around the throttle body shown in the photos, some of it is incorrect. Instead study the S4 & S5 FSM pages, and you'll be able to figure it out.
In addition to that page, I'm attaching some notes I made during my swap. I differed mainly in that I retained the S4 LIM in order to retain the port air for emissions, and used the S5 vacuum spider (simplifies the hose routing and mount of manifold).
Also, look at the 2nd Gen archive for instructions on building a DIY RPM switch. Otherwise, buy the Summit Racing piece.
Good luck- it's worth the effort, car seems torquier now, and I registered +10 hp on my GTech.
