First I want to say I'm a person who likes function over form. I'll put anything on my car provides it serves a function. If it doesn't, or my car would actually benefit from having it removed... it's gone.

Now, as a present from my parents for my highschool graduation, they're getting my car re-sprayed as a gift (provided I learn from it, and help w/ prep) by one of their friends. So, before I spray it, I thought about getting an aluminum hood (as it would actually improve something), but the only ones I can find are off of TII's.

I'd like to at least (seeing as my car ISN'T A TII) provide a function for it to serve while being on my car.


Long story short...

Is there any function that a TII can serve on an N/A, without HEAVILY modifing it (IE: Welding the Aluminum)???

maybe replace the scoop with a reverse scoop like this.
vents engine bay heat and keeps hood looking good.

Aside from posibly cooling your engine better, or keeping the top of your dynamic chamber cleaner (if you dont clean your engine bay) there is nothing. I used to run a t2 hood on my na, and noticed no change. IF you put a t2 hood on an NA car, and you look real close through the scoop, you can see the tip top of the dynamic chamber. This means there is no room whatsoever for any sort of intake or the like.

 

I'm fine w/ it if it cools the engine better.

But, if I could do something to the TII hood, lift the back or something to raise it, and then making an intae or something? In case you can't tell, I'm really trying to get convinced out of not putting the TII on...

I dont think theres been solid evidence provided about the T2 hoods lack of functionality.

Everyone here holds Mazda's engineering abllity to such a high standard (throttle body, 6 ports etc) when someone wants to mod any of those parts, so I dont see why this doesnt apply to the hood. IMO I think it functions fine.

 

Yes, but is the "Mazda Engineered functionality" of a TII hood still functional on an NA? i only see it being functional if the hood scoop is reversed.

 

The only real reason is for the weight savings, which are pretty huge if you get the fibreglass version of the TII hood compared to the NA's heavy steel one.

The amount of cooling that the TII hood can help with the engine is probably not noticeable at all. I wouldn't even consider it.

Get it to save weight, and it looks cool too.

 

Yep, this would be the only reason to put a Turbo hood on an NA. $385 is obscene though...

 

There's been no solid evidence provided about the T2 hoods functionality on an NA. I think you've completely misunderstood the discussion.
