word i live by and there are few exceptions:

if its fast and cheap, its not reliable...
if its cheap and reliable, its not fast...
if its fast and reliable, its not cheap...

there are a few exceptions but most cars work this way...

a $1000 4000RWHP car will not last. if it is truly a $1000 motor/EMS that is. porting? porting requires a rebuild, factor in another grand at least.... wideband? tuning?

come on..... you cant go far for $1000 even if you know wtf you are doing.

quit giving people ideas that this can be done. it can't unless you got the parts for free.

get new tires. st115's or something
junkyard lightweight wheels (gotta know what to look for...)
home made intake /w a cone filter
new brakes
oh, clean your 5th and 5th ports
and degrease the intake manifold and related parts while it's off the car
lightweight flywheel + new clutch (if you can afford it)

strip the living hell out of the interior
remove the a/c, and related garbage
remove the radio, speakers, etc
remove the fan blower, etc
remove the passenger seat
remove any and all sound deadening
remove any and all carpet
remove useless interior plastic trim

finally go on a diet
take a poop and pee before you race
drive naked

The stock exhaust is pretty restrictive. You'll see pretty good gains from opening this up a bit. My advice is....

1. Gut out your cats.
2. Cat-Back racing beat kit.
3. New struts/shocks.

Thats about $1k worth of upgrade, and well worth it.

Yeah I took out the heater core and blower motor out of my 87TII in hopes of lightening the car up and you know what it got me?

Can't drive it when it rains (no defogger)
Can't drive it when its cold (no heat)

BTW I think the formula for weight reduction vs gain is as follows;

100lbs reduced = 1/10 of a second in gain on the 1/4

So that would be a 1 second gain for every 1000lbs. Good luck

I could be wrond but that's what I heard

Alot less trouble, and more power/fun than anything you can do with 1k on an n/a.
LMAO! If someone is selling a tII for less than $2k that means there is almost definately something wrong with it.

"Alot less trouble" Definately not.
"More power/fun" Probably not, a tII with shitty compression OR shitty turbo looses to a N/A with good compression (N/A is higher compression motor stock). Also remember that stock vs stock comparing s4 rx7s the turbo is barely over a second faster on the 1/4.

So basically if your only spending $1k theres nothing wrong with your N/A. (Assuming there really is nothing wrong with it) And it will last longer, be more reliable. If you want to get it out of the 15s you'll need a tII and more money.

I agree. NA's can be decent fun and going to buy a TII isn't the best for everyone. most by this time are problematic. There are alot more things that can go wrong with a TII and not everyone here has the cash to take care of that .

If you can find one without as many problems, expect to pay 2500+.

CHeap forced indution. I even though I did post that he could turbo it, that was basically if he could find all the parts for dirt cheap. Forced induction isnt that cheap, and doing it right.

Id still go with some suspension and some kind of cheaper exhaust.

Ummm KIA + 100MPH = Disaster

Who care's about speed? Hmmm...just about everyone on the forum? What the hell is the point of all these "more power for loose change" threads? To go faster. Period.

yea...theres no bolt on turbo kits for the na....your better off street porting the engine...or if you wanna go turbo, its cheaper getting finding a turbo two car rather than swapping in the motor....too much hassle...but as far as 1k goes for more power?...intake and exhaust is about all you'll get....

So...in this statement...you're assuming the car only sells for 1k....even an n/a in decent condition can pull 2K+...one in really good condition can pull more than that. You have to realize not everybody in the world is cheap (like MOST of the 2nd gen owners on this forum). Go look at what these cars are selling for on autotrader...I won't advertise a car for sale here unless it's for parts....because frankly...you can get more elsewhere from somebody who doesn't know any better...ha.

So..say he can sell his car for $2500 +1k...there's 3500...many a tII can be had for that....If he can get 3K+ for his car you're looking at over $4000...to put in a tII...I got my tII with a popped motor and probably 2k worth of mods for about $1000...had the motor rebuilt...and guess what...have something more fun and a LOT more power than anything he can do with 1k and a stock na...

Under 1000$ bucks? If he already knew how to set up his car with forced induction, he would of done it or wouldn't need to ask. Plus it's really not that cheap to do right. A supercharger? Don't offer suggestions if you have no clue what you're talking about if that was a suggestion. Forced induction isn't nesscessary the best thing when it comes to 1k (don't forget the labor/time included). Also if I remember correctly, I quoted your comment where you say something like "I like my TII and boost". This pertains to modifying NA's. Not your opinion on what is better.

And I'll simmer down when you can add a comment that might be helpful. Now I'm done with you.

The BLOWN engines help!

And I guess you may have purchased a modified TII? That means there was just one person to **** with it in my opinion. Half the modified TII's I've seen in my life were held together by zipties or were a time bomb waiting to explode.

Also this thread is about his 1k to spend on his NA. Not for him to buy his TII.

Whatever direction he goes in it doesn't matter. If he is going into the Marines soon then why bother with the N/A?? Sell the ****** and buy a TII when you get back. Making it through bootcamp should be your numberone priority at this point.

OR, buy one with a blown engine and worry about it after, you know when uncle sam stuffs your pockets with cash for joining the military...

IMO and I don't give a **** what anyone else says, If you want an FC3S that has power don't bother with an N/A. If you want a clean fun to drive car that peels out and does donuts around town, and looks good then buy an N/A. Plain and simple, it's not rocket science. Port the **** out of an N/A block and kiss "daily driver" out the door. TII's DO NOT go for more money than N/A's just log onto autotrader.com and find out for yourself. I just bought an 88TII stock in great condition for 1500.00. CALL ME LUCKY, but I call it patience. DON'T BLOW YOUR LOAD TOO QUIK if you know what I am saying.
