make my car shut off!!
i trunk mounted my battery and installed a "kill" switch in series of the negative battery cable. all good ryte? WRONG! the altenator keeps my car running when i turn the switch "off" (i.e causing infinit continuity to the ground wire) i had a couple of ideas like unplugging the altenator when i go to the trak, or putting another switch in series of one of the wires that go to the altenator and turning it off when i go to the tech line but i was wondering if n-e-1 had a better solution?

the postive is always the wire i have put the kill swtich on. I order to see if it will work just pull the postive termial off the batter when the car is running. If the car dies, then wire the switch up with the postive lead. If it doesn't stop then you have something wrong with your electrical system.

Your thread is hard to follow. What exactly are you trying to do?
BTW: Don't disconnect the battery while the car is running. It is very tough on the IC regulator in the alt and the alt could spike up 16+ volts when it doesn't see enough battery voltage, so don't do it. Well unless you like replacing the alt and ECU from time to time.

Here's a trick I've learned over the years:
Step 1: Look down to your right, near the shifter, you should see a hand.
Step 2: Move your hand to the right side of the steering wheel, just behind it.
Step 3: Feel around for a key, you should be able to find it fairly quickly.
Step 4: Turn the key towards you, in a counter-clockwise fashion.
Step 5: Beat yourself over the head repeatedly with the previously meantioned hand.
Hehehe just messin wit u

the feul pump cut out switch is already installed and is not acceptable in the tech. line at the local track. the switch that is accessable from the outside has to cut off all battery power says the nira/nhra rule book.

when you trunk mount your battery, as i have done, there has to be a switch accessable from the outside of the vehicle that cuts off all battery power to the car and shuts the car off. it says this in the nira/nhra rule book. most of the time, the racers that do trunk mount their batterym, they do not run altenators. but i still am, so my car stays on, when i turn that switch off.

Ah... Sounds like you could use a 70 amp bosch relay on the alt then, so when the voltage dropped from the battery the relay would open.

Do you realize that a true kill power switch kills the battery AND the alternator?  Go reread the rules - you need a special double-throw kill switch to kill the battery connection AND the alternator connection.  A lot of the kill switches you see advertised are technically not legal for NHRA use...

do you know who makes these switches and where i can get one? i think i might just put a switch in series of the blk/wht wire of the altenator and turn it off when i go to the tech line and hope they dont catch me =). but if those special switches are cheap i think i might just buy 1. if anybody has any info on it.

Step 2: Move your hand to the metal lever in the center. On top of this lever there should be a "****" with strange writing on it.
Step 3: Look down to your left, you should see a foot. Move your left foot to the far left petal and press down.
Step 4: At the same time, move the lever towards the "R" on the "****".
Step 5: Pull your left leg up.
Step 6: Use leg and hand to beat yourself with.
Dunno, I'm bored.
