'cause the lift of the flapper of the flap-style MAF usually is harmonized with the amount of fuel used in the engine. as different engines are in need of different fuel amounts at different loads (esp. rotaries) , i assume that it's not going to work properly. in addition, manufacturers use different voltages for their fuel maps, so i don't think these maps will accidentally fit yours in your FC! the same problem with the hotwire-type MAF, that are known to be much less restrictive.

With a stand alone ECU can't you completly negate an MAF and run off of a different sensor that is much less restrictive?

yes you can, that would then be a map sensor like the stock REW has with the FD!
