Lsd Types
need some info:
i have an 87 gxl and an 89 gtu parts car. are the differentials different? if so which is better.
i bought the 87 gxl used. the only option it has is cruise. it has no pwr anything. the car has a clear title and has never been painted. could it be that it was just ordered that way?
thanks to all who give answers.

some guy told me this when i bought my lsd
he had 2/3 types
lsd differnt.
89-91 gtu-s have 4.3 gears an is the best take off
87-91 turbo 2 have 3.9 gears an is the best mph+ speed
but its heavyer an need the driveshaft and axel from a T2 m to install it on a n/a
87-88 last longer
88-91 gxl have lsd but its 4.1 gear like n/a but better take off
i bought the 90 gtu-s lsd incredible take off bolt right on

the 86-88 have clutch type LSD's which engage faster but wear out after time. the 89-91 have visous coupling (sp?) LSD's which take a tad longer to engage but don't wear out.
this is assuming that both your diffs have LSD....
and as said above different rear ends have different gear ratios. so you if you change the rear end change the speedo gear in the tranny so your speedo stays right.
but turbos have 4.10 gears. auto cars have 3.9 gears.

how will i know if the diffs i have are LSD's. the 87 will spin the right rear momentarily and then catch. in the rain the backend always slides right if i floor it in first or second. would this indicate LSD.
as for the 89 it is a gtu model, but i have never driven it due to the lack of an engine.

In 87
Base and sport have no LSD
GXL and T2 have clutch type LSD
As for automatic, I dont think they come with any LSD, but dont quote me on this one, but the other 2 are facts
