LSD Performance a problem NA/TII Swap
Just completed a complete N/A TII swap into an 89 GTU NA. I replaced the engine and entire drive line with TII parts. I used an 87-88 (not Sure) LSD Turbo rear end. When I drove it for the first time, there was a clunking sound as if the drive shaft had a bad u-joint although the driveshaft is brand new and the half shafts are also brand new.
When I drive the car in a straight line, it is a mild clunking but when I pull into the driveway, it sounds like the LSD is locked up becasue it makes some horrible popping noises. The guy I bought the LSD from had power washed it and left water in it for a while. When I pulled the new oil back out of the dif, it had a rusty shade to it.
I pulled the rear end, disassembled the rear end. The LSD plates were within specs for thickness. The ring and pinion seem to be in good shape. Any ideas on what would cause the binding in the dif?
