Talking LSD diff

Ok guys along with all the other stuff that I am doing this fall I am swapping the open diff with the S4 diff that is in my parts car(88GXL auto).

I am doing this based on the fact that most beleive that the Limited Slip Diff is better. Other than having twice the traction capacity what benefits or features will I get from this swap? I did some searching but most of it was just compatability between models and such so I thought I would make this thread.

Better hard cornering ability, improved launching ability (within reason...open diffs can spin both tires also, when the tires are skinny enough and dont provide enough resistance on their own)

I thought all auto diffs were 3.909 open. I just swapped a 4.10 into my auto, and it made a huge difference in 1st gear accelleration.

If you were referring to me saying that cornering ability is improved with a LSD, I stand by my statement. Id be interested to hear why you think it wouldnt though..?

As far as the gear ratio, yes the S4 autos came with a 3.909 diff, but the GXL had a LSD reguardless of gearset.

Mephis- I get it I think. You can't have worse cornering if you have more tracktion. The tires have less load put on them for acceleration so they can handle a bit more stress while cornering. Is that what you mean Lenny?

why would you want that gear it will slow your acceleration down. the GXL Auto has an LSD with a 3.9 86-88 years.

Nope, they are the same LSD, just different gearset. And about my comment on the LSD for cornering..
If you have an open diff, and take a corner very hard and try and accelererate out under WOT, it is very possible that you will start spinning only one tire under the hard acceleration. With the LSD, it will not allow this tire to spin, yet tie in the other side tire for more traction.
