Question Lsd

How do you know if you got one? I have a 1991 N/A, but it leaves to tire marks when I burn out...So, do I got one?!?!?

"Either do a burnout and check that you leave 2 patches or the best way is to spin a brodie or go around a corner and pop the clutch. Have someone watch you and if you're inside tire lights up, you don't have lsd. Some open diff's (when at the end of their life span) will light both tires up on a normal burnout."

End of the life span!!!! How can you tell! Gee, I hope mine's not! It only has 98,xxx miles, so I don't think it is worn. What are the warning signs of a burnt differential?

Put the rear up, spin one tire, if the other spins the opposite direction it's an open diff and you look like a ***** when you do burnouts. :p

If it's an LSD the other tire should either not turn, or turn in the same direction.

Heres a little more detail. The car is jacked up and supported with both tires in the air.

LSD - car in gear(driveshaft does not turn) wheels turn opposite ways.
- car in nuetral wheels turn same way.

Open - car in nuetral, wheels turn opposite way, or only wheel turns
- car in gear, wheels turn opposite ways

Man, you have a 91, most of which came with the options of a gxl, which had LSD, so I bet 90% that you ahve an LSD.

I always spin one whel and see if the other turns and which way. If they turn the same way you have LSD. Also, look at the rear from behind..see 2 large bolts? The upper one wil hae a tag that says limited slip.
