Lrg fuel pump setups

Currently I run a aeromotive a1000 out of the tank in my rear bin. I have a custom fuel tank top and a lrg prepump filter in tank it runs -10 line splits to -8 to two post filters then to each rail.
I'm switching chassis and am gonna redo the pump setup to a Intank and keepin the rest the same. I was thinking 044. Do I need 2? Does any one sell Intank cradles for the FC or is that just an FD thing? Let me kno what you big Hp guys are doing.

I have an intank '044 in an FC.

Make sure you get a real one as they are knocking off the '044.

The '044 is much larger diameter so you have to cut the stock fuel pump bracket above the pump and put a spacer to offset it and bolt the two parts together.

You will also have to cut the lower pump support off the pump I believe and use band clamps around the pump to hold it in place. I put fuel safe closed cell foam between the mount and pump.

You should really drill out the fuel pump cover plate outlet and put a AN bulkhead fitting in and use AN fittings between the pump and the bulkhead fitting.

The sock filter adapter I bought was an AN fitting that just happened to fit the sock filter, but it was only open on the end so could suck the sock filter against the inlet and limit flow. Others had this problem. I drilled holes around the periphery of the inlet adapter to avoid this.

There is a plastic sock filter adapter that has open sides- I would use this one..

I think one '044 will be fine unless you are doing E85, then you probably need 2 to max out the turbo.

I saw in Grassroots Motorsports that they sell mini fuel cell/swirl pots now that incorporate '044 pumps and are small enough to tuck places in an FC- this would be a great option because the FC tank isn't baffled and just has that little well for the pump.

If I race with less than 1/2 tank I get starvation with the intank.

Thanks so much for the info. Another oPtion I was thinking is mounting a swirl pot up front with 2 044 and use the stock system with a walbro to pump to fuel there, what u think? Any other ideas?

do u run a twin system if not , i have mine (1000hp sx) mounted to a 3lt surge tank mounted under the bac in the muffler well

i have then run a 1/2in feed and return was fine for 400+ rwhp i was running soon to b over 500 rwhp

I currently have a dual walbro 255 in tank, y together in tank to single line, then y out to each fual rail. I want to change it so ea pump goes to each fuel rail. Using the other metal line that used to go to the charcoal canister.

Really easy to dual mount them to the pump holder bracket thing, just a little tricky squeezing into the tank...

After some thought, I think im going use what I got simplify my change. intank I run a -10 100micron ss filter, im gonna put a 044 in place of it and put the filter inline where my a1000 pump is. it will be cost effective and easy to do.
my real guestion is with a -10 male fitting on the 044s outlet how long is it? do i have enought room to put a=some sort of prefilter? is it really nesisary with 3 upsteam? will the pump be ok unfiltered?

That is the one that will need cross drilling the alum adapter to keep from sucking the sock filter against he pump inlet and choking flow.

thanks alot do you use one of these too? I also figure itll help with starvation issuses setting the pump a little lower. I need one in -10.

As a for wiring I currently just use a fuelsafe 2 wire tank passthru for just the level sensor being I dont have a pump in there currently, Ill have to upgrade to a 4 wire.

I don't have a check valve on the '044 so I have to key it over a couple times before I do a cold start 1st thing in the morning- kinda a pain.

Warm start works fine even going from 0 fuel pressure.

tempted by that check valve...

im pretty sure the 044 comes with a check valve, but when you install it in the tank you have to remove it to fit it. At least thats the way I remember it.
Definitely cant fit 2 044 pumps under the stock cover.
Another option might be the new aeromotive pump its alot smaller but hasnt been out as long as the 044 which is a solid proven performer. but I bet you could fit 2 of those in there.
If you are not going E85 you dont need the 2 pumps anyhow.

I want to get rid of that short piece of hose but it works, I put a different hose after I got it all figured out a week later.

I ordered the inlet prefilter sock and adaptor from pegan, the -8 outlet check valve from jayracing, and a female to female -8 to -10 AN reducer for it to attach everything to my tank to tank top. Im really set on this, it should be an upgrade over my previous set up.

Caution on using a 2" piece of fuel hose on the '044 outlet!

I did this as well when I first put my '044 in and due to the short hose length and slight bend stressing the hose combined with the high pressures involved it split the 2" fuel hose right across the edge of the pump outlet fitting and blew the motor really badly first time I drove it and boosted.

First you should cut the pump bracket and offset it so that there is no bend with the wider '044 pump.

Then you should get an adapter fitting from pump to hardline (from swagelok for instance) if you want to use the stock outlet tube.

My outlet tube was already cut too short from doing it wrong with the 2" fuel hose as shown above. I then had to drill out the stock outlet tube and use an -an bulkhead fitting, -an female to female fitting and -an adapter to pump.

With -6an fittings this was not ideal as the pump inlet filter was ~1/2 to 3/4" from the bottom of the tank instead of right on the bottom. I would try it with -8an fittings though other brands of -6an female to female swivel coupler may be longer than what I used.

That '044 outlet to -6an check valve in this thread might drop the pump to the right height with a non swivel -6an female to female fitting. I would like to try that.

i busted a hose on the dyno ( that hose in the picture ) , since have replaced it with another much better hose. Dont have alot of miles but enough that it hasnt broken again.

Once the tune is sorted out I do plan on changing it out, but yes to anyone reading this choose your hose carefully or convert it over. I did that on a Sunday and had limited resources but it has held up so far. Remember right after it leaves the fuel pump cover it goes to a rubber hose again ( which I would like to get rid of as well- its the last remaining section of stock fuel system )

I'm also takIng into account the barb fitting that's on there. the check valve screws strait into the pumps outlet. I also think the ore filter I got is alittle lower then urs. It's gonna be tight.. There's also no hose being used on my setup. The pump hat is custom and uses an fittings. Right now I have This inline filter mounted http://m.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-12304 with 2 -10 fittings on it. It's appx 6.5 - 7 inches. How long is the 044

give you an idea how large that pump is in the backround of my picture is the old pump.
The filter on the bottom of my pump I cant see it possibly being any shorter, it is SHORT, it has a plastic skeleton inside to keep it from collapsing but its still very very short. I actually was lucky enough that a DA sander wrench I had fit it otherwise I had no wrench that was thin enough to tighten it thats how short that fitting is. I could swear the 044 pump comes with a checkvalve? I know mine came with one and the AN fittings, I had to buy the filter and had the top barb custom made but there are guys selling them on ebay but last I checked they were all coming from australia and I didnt want to wait for it.
