LR wheel intermittent vibration

Ok, I’m almost guaranteed that it’s coming from the LR because if you were to drive behind the vehicle, you could see the wheel move from side to side. It’s not a flat spot or from the rims being off balance because, I’ve even tried another set of rims just to be sure. Best way to describe it is a wobble or thumping sensation, even noticeable to passenger. Before I start removing the wheel bearing or inspecting the half shaft, is there anything else that it might be besides the u-joint, trailing link, lateral link or bushings? The problem is intermittent and does not happened all the time, speed or being in gear does not have any effect. Any suggestions?

thx

I would check the DTSS bushing. It is supposed to steer the wheel as you turn harder for better/quicker handling. Being that it is quite old now, I'm sure it is pretty worn. Slop in this bushing would cause the wheel to toe-in and out with any variations in the road surface.

Should this be the case, almost every rotary shop makes a replacement:

Mazdatrix, Racing Beat, etc.

Hope this helps,
Vince

Thanks for the reply I've looked at them and they indeed do look old, i will definitely replace them. Although, I’m wondering if that’s causing the problem for the wheel to wobble.

Update: I removed the LR hub and axle, everything appears to be fine. Axle is not bent and hub spins freely. I guess I will look at it more tomorrow.
