If you love your car, you will get the OEM thermostat. End of discussion.

The OEM thermostat is 180F, and running a rotary any cooler will result in other problems

ICEMARK IS THE MAN! only get an OEM thermostat for your car, if its running hot you have other problems...if you still want to run colder get a koyo radiator.

Ice is right!
Unless you want to change all the temp sensors in the engine, which you can't buy anyway. lol
The machine has been finely tuned and manufactured to operate at 180 deg.
I'm using a 180 deg t-stat from Mazdatrix (included with a water pump, water housing, filler neck and thermo combo I found on e-bay) works like the OEM and has a little jiggle pin to boot.

At first I found a 165 deg thermo at the auto parts store and thought "damn that rotary engine runs hot enough, why not cool it down a bit?"

WRONG ANSWER: I looked for advice in this form and found what Ice and JPK were talking about. Do Not change the water temp! Even if you live in FLA.
The machine will use more gas tring to get warmed to temperature which will never be achievable with no thermo or lower temp thermo.

Go to your local Mazda dealer and buy the OEM.
Keep that thing stock and simple.
