low to no fuel

well my buddy just bought a 86 gxl and hes having a bit of trouble getting it to run. I have been searching for the last hour and not found anything similar, He is saying that the fuel pump is getting low voltage, he ran a hot wire direct from the battery and the fuel pump works perfectly fine. when he craks the engine though it doesn't get fuel. im not sure if the injectors are kicking on, and im not sure if the secondaries suppose to help prime the system. we havent pulled the upper intake to check the primaries to see if they are priming . any help would be great thaks in advance.

easiest way to see if your getting fuel up front is take off the fuel line under driver side going into fuel filter and make sure that the pump actually starts so point it away from eyes into a can and flick ign on pos and fuel should come pouring out..step one done

you need to push the air flow meter door flapper in as well to make the fuel pump turn on, while the ignition is on.

The easiest way is to jumper the initial set coupler by the air filter (as per the FSM) and just turn the key. That will run the pump.
I would put a pressure gauge on the fuel line to the fuel rail and check the pressure. You can also verify that the pump is running by listening for it in the back hatch.
If you have a good pump and good pressure to the rail, then I would start thinking about injector operation. I doubt if the injectors themselves are the problem, but the connection to the injectors, the grounds, or the signal from the CAS are most suspect.
I had an 86 that would not fire the injectors simply because of bad grounding. There are two grounds for the injectors, but you will have to pull the top end (TB ) off of the engine to get to them.

You can get a mechanics stethoscope and listen for pulses from the injectors. I saw one for under $10 at the bargain tool place.

Make sure the plug to the AFM is plugged in all the way as that will make the pump not come on.

Also, this is kinda hard to find, but if you guys do take the UIM off check to see if the EFI harness is grounded. There's a ground between the clutch slave cylinder and the oil filter pedestal that if not connected, will make the injectors not fire.
