Low end power on my TII

My 87 TII is having a wierd low end power problem. I have no cats, performance TID, new NGK plugs, new NGK plug wires, full 2.5" exhaust. If you mash the gas in neutral, the RPM's come up kind of slow then feel like they just "fling" up fast after about 2.5k RPM. When taking off it feels like you can stomp the gas and it doesn't get up and go until the RPM's get up a little and then it just takes off. I know rotaries don't have a ton of low end torque, but I have an 87 N/A as well and it still jolts you back when you hit the gas from a stop or slow roll. The TII just won't do that. Its also wierd to me how it does this in neutral as well with no load on the engine. Any ideas?

that sounds pretty normal to me. you also have to remember it takes a couple seconds for the turbo to spool up.

It could just be you have a high mileage / low compression motor.
Or maybe even an apex seal going out.

Start with a compression test.

I just swapped in a J-spec from an automatic.
The automatic engine with a light flywheel has a much more linear torque graph.

Welcome to turbo lag. You can compensate for this by changing your driving style a bit.

This is why I'd like a 350HP 4 rotor NA instead of a 350ft-lbs Turbo II. I prefer the NA feel of my convertible.

In Atlanta there are 2 "motech ECU" TII conversion guys running high compression NA rotors with 14PSI boost in their 1st gens. Not only do they make lots of effecient power by boosting the high compression rotors, but that off-boost laggy feel is reduced a bit.

I think running an intercooled twin-roots supercharger on a street ported NA engine would be the best boosted setup to retain that "kick *** throttle responce" of the NA engine, but you'd only have headroom for 8PSI without going to a high-performance aftermarket ECU.

Automatic transmission don't use flywheels.

ACT makes a sweet 13 lb steel flywheel.
It bolts to the same counterweight that's used for the automatic's flex plate.

Oops - You're an automatic.

The stock flex plate only weighs maybe 5-6 lbs.

I appreciate all the help guys. The TPS is in spec and compression is 105 psi all around on both rotors. Maybe it is just the turbo??? It feels wierd as hell after years of driving my N/A. This thing just rockets forward after the thing spools though...guess I have to just keep those revs up nice and high where they should be

Naw sounds wierd even the turbo II revs pretty smooth. I think you got some issues needs a complete tune up is the timing in spec? air filters ? Fuel pressure?

Timing hasn't been checked, I have a 2.5" TID, and fuel pressure needs to be checked. I'll see what I come up with.
