Low Compression?

Hey, just out of curiousity, is there anything that could 'cause low compression that doesn't need a rebuild of the engine? Bad injector, bad ignition timing, some small seal/gasket?

Carbon build up in the seal grooves causing enough adhesion for the seals to stick more than the springs can push them back.
A dose of high detergent oil like ATF or MMO through the plug holes, spin it some, let it sit a day, fire it up.
If I was really desperate - PB Blaster.
