Lots of white smoke at start-up. Engine bad?

Me and my buddy were looking at a FC. He started it up while I watched the back. There was a lot of white smoke. A LOT. We drove it and the left silencer/exhaust was leaking. We couldn't get it over 3PSI.

Is the white smoke an indication of a bad engine?

Is the low boost a result of a bad exhaust?

Did you notice the coolant level?? White smoke is usually an indication of bad water seals = bad engine. The low boost also could be a result of this Id think, but Im not really a turbo guy so Im nor too sure.

If the coolant seals are bad, should there be white smoke the entire time or just at the startup?

This can happen as well, it'll let the seal slip out of place and let coolant in.

But it does seem that your getting coolant seeping into the combustion area after you cut the car off (system is still pressurized).

It may not be as noticeable if it is a small leak. But a small leak over a few hours may be enough to create the smoke that you see on startup.

It's also going to depend on ambient temerature. If it's very cold, white smoke on startup is normal, but it should disappear after about 10 minutes or so.
