Unhappy lots of problems...need help

i just recently bought my 89 rx7 gxl. the test drive was PERFECT. EVERYTHING ran smoothly. i thought 2 grand was a great price..but then problems arised. FIRST OF ALL, the car began smoking GREATLY (I MEAN ALLLLLOOOOOTTT of smoke[white]) but only while i warm it up after it sits for about 5 hours or more. I began thinking that it was the apex seals like everyone says...but began thinking that my compression is fine, and that the car runs GREAT, but warms up with this HORRIBLE smoke. DIAGNOSIS? HELP? ANYONE? PLEASE??

do you have lots of pressure in the coolant lines? sounds like a blown water seal

i have NO idea on how much pressure the coolant lines have. if you would tell me how to check, i would gladly do it for your help. a co-worker of mine and I also believe it is a water issue due to the white smoke...seriously...I LOVE this car, but moving to california, i would have to give it up due to SMOG. HELP PLEASE! before i take it to the dealership to spend WAYYY more money than i should.
