Lost my tachometer reading trying to find the fuel pump connector

Today I decided to change the fuel filter. Well, learning I had to disconnect the fuel pump, I unplugged what I thought was it. Wrong! My rpms are reading 0 on the tach, but the motor runs fine and responds to me giving it gas fine. On start-up it shoots to 3000 and immediately drops to 0. How do I fix this. I tried plugging it back in while the motor was and was not running. It is the 4 into 4 plug direcctly behind the front left shock tower (yes, I read the directions wrong). Anyone had this happen to them before? Got any ideas?
