Lost boy needs help finding project car

Ok so let me start out that since about a month ago i have been into subarus and knew absolutely nothing about wankels. (Don't ask what happened a month ago) Since then i have done research up the wazoo but still don't know what to expect for a budget project rx7. Basically my budget for the car its self is somewhere in the ballpark of 2000, and want to spend about that much or less if possible. I'm looking for around 220 to 250 horsepower and am wondering if i can achieve that n/a (cus thats what i did with my suby). If not, can one of you good, kind, sirs lemme know if i can just swap out the turbo 13b rotors (low compression?) and upgrade the oil stuff (local guy said i needed to upgrade something with that). Please, if you have a heart, help this poor highschooler out?

thanks,
Brett

Ohhh by the way i'm getting a second gen.

search more, there is a lot of info here. rotaryressurection.com aaroncake.net fc3spro.com (or net i forget)

My advice to you is to search a lot more because you are going to be getting even more questions when you actually get a car. The faq in the top of the section is also good for info. If you have a budget get another car especially if you are looking for power. If you want to get a fun DD get a N/A FC and do repair work that it needs.

Welcome to the club too man.

'Ere I'll make it easy for you. Finding an N/A 13B for under 2k should be relitively easy. If you're able to spend that cash on a car itself then it should be in good condition... perhaps a few minor blemishes on the body, but nothing big like creases in the metal etc. N/A's push out about 140-150 hp depending on year. If you get an S4 you will get the 140 mark. if you get an S5 you'll hit the 150. (all this information can be found in the FAQ, May i recommend you read it. Also read up on the write ups in the archives. Those are amazing. some write ups are still in the works and haven't made it into the archives so do a search with the words "write up" or your subject). Pulling in 220-250 hp might be a little difficult depending on your budget and time constraints. However if you have the cash flow getting a stand alone ecu, or even a piggy back will give you some nice hp. Rotaries run rich and leaning them out a little bit will give you a few hp, and might even save you some gas ;-)

Cold air intake systems for these cars are non-exsistent and would need to be fabricated (search on how other forum members did it). Also exhaust upgrade from the regular will give you alot more HP. For instance if you go with the RB dual exhaust i've heard rumors of 10-15hp gains and sometimes more. Upgrading to higher compression rotors will also increase your hp, if you lighten your rotors you'll free up even more hp but at the sacrifice of torque (if i recall right. I may be wrong). Also lightening the fly wheel will free up more hp, but make driving it on the street a little tougher (if you goto a racing flywheel that is much lighter than the stock steel one). I think if you accomplished all those you'll deffinatly be pretty close to 200 if not a little over. but--i have yet to even accomplish one of those yet. so take my advice for what it's worth.

If you're still under you hp goals then you will have to get into the nitty gritty of finding more hp. Either via porting the side irons and intake manifold, or by making the car lighter. just a few things to keep in mind. Forced induction usually is the best way to go to see hp increases of 50hp or more in a single time.

There's no point in swapping for lower compression rotors if you're N/A. You'd be losing power. Also know that whenever you tear a rotary block down, it must be rebuilt before reassembly, due to damage of the soft seals. $2000 is an unrealistic figure for any 225-250hp turbo rotary, let alone N/A.
