i dunno what to say man. maybe your just a picky person, because i love it, shifting is just a slight move of the wrist and click-click i've changed gears smooth as butter.
i also have brand new shifter bushings installed, did you?

i'm thinking you just had a bad experience

maybe you have weaker arms than mine?

also your comparison with money is wrong, because like i said in my post up there "they are not the same thing"

one is a "short throw shifter" the other is a "shortened shifter"

if you don't like it thats fine, i love it, go spend $200 on a shifter that has a 1/3 chance of rattling

Does a heavier knob work that much better?

I got the "RAZO RA101A Rally Round Shift Knob, White" off amazon for about $25 (after shipping) and im assuming its not all that heavy.

drfting07 08-02-07 08:16 PM

Enough with the short throw/shortened shifter bullshit, i asked about shift knobs. Start another thread and dont jack this one!

KhanArtisT 08-02-07 09:25 PM

shift knobs are all preference IMO, theres way too many different types you could go with. Can't go wrong with mazdaspeed though. I have the sparco globe knob on my car and I couldn't be happier with it, although I wish it was a little heavier. I'll probably go with a mazdaspeed or an RX8 knob in the future. Heres a pic of a local member's RX7 with the RX8 knob, definitely makes me want one

My buddy gave me mine from his WRX. Nice and simple leather, good weight and is the same thread as an S4 :)

Hey guys, My dad builds custom furniture and he talked me into making a wooden knob on the lathe. I'll keep yall posted on how it goes with updates and if you like what you see, i'll be able to sell a couple on the forum. Woods are: Curly Cherry, Black Walnut, Curly maple, Flamed Birch, Plane Maple, Plane Cherry, Pine, have a limited supply of Ash, Chestnut and Birdseye maple. PM me if you might be interested and i'll see about starting a group buy.

X-JaVeN-X 08-04-07 02:49 PM

i'd like to see those...but you need to do something to make them heavier...I can't imagine an all wooden knob being very well weighted...and I can't stand a light weight knob.

drfting07 08-04-07 05:45 PM

I'll see what I can do, the one im making now is cherry/maple. I'll have pics of the knob thus far later tonite.

drfting07 08-04-07 07:28 PM

This is the first two hours of construction. It just finished pressing while the glue set and was squared, ready for the lathe. I should be getting a rough shape of the knob tonite. As you can see this one is moving fairly well along! Ive got a ton of ideas as far as custom pieces for the public but we'll see what happens. :)

i installed a short shifter and kept my oooooold knob. i think it looks clean. i'm not too much a fan of the "8ball" looking Razo knob. they probaly wont like mine either... but to each his own

you'll have to excuse the mess and missing pillar b/c i'm still waiting for my BNR

la.reina 08-04-07 07:42 PM

On the subject of rx8 knobs, can they fit on s4 threading?

hmm what year wrx? That would probably make searching for a knob a little easier.

drfting07 08-04-07 08:39 PM

Have a mock up of an original design. Its the shape im going to use just smaller. Ill post pics once i put a finish on it.

Lemme know if your gonna want something made. I'll get better pics asap!

CyberPitz 08-04-07 08:48 PM

I'm guessing the "RX8 shift" isn't going to fit on an S4? :(

KhanArtisT 08-05-07 12:49 AM

no the threading is different. You can pick up S5 shifters for cheap though

Zero2188 08-05-07 03:42 AM

The RX-8 shift nob fits. Karack has one on his S4 T2...

... But get a stock S5 one. Cheap, sexy, and a good weight too.

Spirit Rx-7 08-05-07 07:21 AM

i like the ball style shiftknob the best, nice and simple

+1 Spirit.

Razo RA25, 340kg, polished black yo.

Houpty GT 08-05-07 08:20 PM

I just want a plain old black leather knob that will come down to the boot. It can have the shift pattern on it or not. Where is a good place for these or how much do the oem ones sell for used. I got a price quote from mazda somewhere.

Your shift knob weights over 700 pounds? Talk about a weighted knob.

I don't know why, but I think that came out very good. I don't think the 'wooden' look fits though, but the shape is very nice.
