Looking to pick up a FC3S, needing some advice
Hey everyone, im new here, thought i would introduce myself and ask some quick quesions. i know some questions i will ask are very newbie, but im new to rotory motors, so instead of acting like i know what im doing and ******* something up, i would rather ask a question and do it right. thanks
My name is Shane, located in Racine WI, 45 min nort of Chicago, 25 min south of Milwaukee.
well i have always been a fan of RX-7's, but have never owned one. i might be picking up a 1991 FC within the next couple weeks, guy might be wanting to trade his 91 FC for my 92 Talon.
obviously there is common rumors that rotory engines are not reliable due to the Apex seals leaking. and that they are very finiky. well i am very knowledgeable about regular engines, however i have to admit i dont have very much knowledge at all about rotory motors.
i know i seen videos or something before about how to rebuild a rotory motor, but i dont know where to find that anymore. its been a while. but how else would you guys recomed learning all i can about rotory's? how they work, run, im the kinda guy that if i dont know how something works, i have to learn how.
feel free to post up with helpful info about tips with 7's. first maintainance when you first get one, basic mods that really help. also, personal preference turbo or na, and what is the general decision behind dropping a jdm turbo motor into a na chassis? yay or nay?
thought i would add, when i get my rx7, i will be using it to drift, so someone with experience on suspension, and good power adders, post the hell outta here. haha

theres nothing that make a rotor any more non reliable as say your honda. the reason that almost every rx7 and rotory motor u come across is because it wasnt taken care of and wasnt maintained and many have set for years and have litterally rotted.
and although i guess they could apex seals dont really leak they tend to break when the motor recieves bad tunning such as boosting it or from non maitenance.
rotary motors are some of the simplest motor designs u will ever see and are very easy to put together and rebuild given u can follow simple instructions and can pay attention to small details that will make or break it.
people reguarly throw 10 and 15 psi of boost into these motors and drive the crap outa them. now think how long a stock honda motor or even your talon motor would last with that much boost in it. and most jdm motors are crap because they sit in the lots with coolent in them and rot away
